If Dion Phaneuf is playing on our 2nd pairing and Wideman gets bumped down to anchor the third pairing, I would bet the time we spend hemmed in our own zone gets dramatically reduced.
Dion's personality is hard to like, and he isn't a true #1, but there are already 2 guys on the roster better than him.
Now, you can argue that we tried a 'big 3' before with Dion and it didn't work, but Darryl had the right idea. Just the wrong players. Is anyone going to argue that Gio/Brodie/Dion is a way better proposition than Bouw/Regehr/Dion?
Personally, I'd rather throw Dion's money at Brent Seabrook, but there's no guarantee he comes available next summer. So whatever Treliving feels is best, really.

Hockey trades would be for scoring rw and top 4 defence man. Oh oh. Phil and Dion.

Everyone who craps on Kessel needs to spend five minutes picturing him on a line with Bennett and Johnny. And once you've cleaned yourselves up, tell us why it's that bad an idea.
