So Kypreos has sources in Calgary that Friedman, Mackenzie, the local media etc. don't have access to? Yeah right... Is it too much to ask that he does his homework before spreading bogus rumors. He probably looked at the "scratches" of both players and made a (bad) assumption about it. And his rationale about "moving out salary" makes NO sense and indicates to me he is utterly out of the loop in regards to anything Calgary related. Throwing crap at the wall and hoping it's right. Nice try.

The problem is that next year, Granlund, Jooris, Bennett, Poirier, Ferland, Wolf and maybe some others will need room in the NHL in order to continue their development. Having 3 3rd/4th lines full of veterans that aren't going to magically get better isn't going to help the team in the coming years.

If you can offload 4 or 5 guys (Glencross/Jones/Raymond/Stajan/Bollig/Byron) between now and next year, I don't see a problem there.

3 more years after this one at 3.125 million a year. Not sure if he has an NTC on this contract though.

Man, he seems certain this is happening.

For size. Either direct or indirect.

It's a head scratcher.

Also why are flames trying to shed salary? I get making hockey trades but shedding salary is something different.
Stajan was married already when he was moved to Calgary, right? Perhaps they want to be closer to family back East, given all that's happened.

Babies or not, you do what's in the best interests of the team. If moving them helps to further secure the Flames' future, you do it. I'm sure Stajan and Raymond are aware, and have been for some time, how NHL teams operate.

Don't see why they want to do this. They have tons of cap space.

To answer no one in particular: you move them not to shed salary, but because you have young players you want in the lineup every night and recognize that sitting two veterans like them night in and night out is a distraction to the team.

You've heard GMs promise that "if young players earn their way onto the team, we'll make space"? This is what making space looks like.

I cant see them trading Stajan. Could see them trad Raymond however since hes typically a healthy scratch. Stajan would be needed if we make the playoffs as the veteran experience and being a center is very useful.

Yeah, this isn't to shed cap space, it's to make room for younger players who have out performed these older, higher paid guys.

Well, cap floor is an issue if that is the case too. I'm sure it can be addressed in the off season but after Glencross comes off the book they'd be 2 million over the floor. Then to move them and with the floor going up even incrementally....

I said it earlier this afternoon contract space flexibility is about the only logical answer I have.

I'd be surprised if the Flames were "trying" to move them. It would probably be more accurate to say the Flames would be willing to move them. As in, they are listening but probably not initiating.

Though given the glut of centres, it wouldn't be surprising if they were a bit more active on Stajan's case.

I think they may be trying to get players from other teams that maybe have fallen out of favour but might be a better fit on the Flames.
