makes you wonder if the Flames shouldn't dangle Wideman and Jones out there to see what offers are out there.

If the Flames got anywhere near what the Hurricanes did for Sekera for Wideman, I think I would be fine with that.

I'm really not sure why people want to trade Wideman. The guy is a warrior and plays his ass off every night. Seems like a great team guy too.

Age more than anything. He'll be too old once the Flames are ready in two years. Selling high more than anything.

Then next season at the deadline. If the Flames make the playoffs, Wideman should be part of it IMO.

Atheists say it GlenX.

This is a name GlenX actually says he does not like.

Which is why I believe most people around here have a disdain for that particular nickname
They also to refer to the Oilers as a hockey team, but that doesn't mean I have a problem calling Flames a hockey team. Even though they seem to play different sports when I compare the two.

If the Capitals are interested in Glencross, I wonder if there is a way we could get Karl Alzner out of them - he would certainly be a good shutdown guy on our backend. Lots of Calgary history too.

Do you really want Smid, Engelland or Diaz to be slotted at #4?

Market will likely be very different then. Wideman may see a performance drop off that may not make him as attractive at this moment. Maximize return where possible. If you can get a 1st and a young defenseman with top four potential for the future, you take that and run.

Wotherspoon could take that spot for the time being.

We would likely be able to use the 5 mil freed up to sign a similar calibre guy in the offseason like Franson or Sekera (assuming that the Preds/Kings don't keep them)

I could see Glencross going to Chicago if we make it we won't be playing them in the first round and we don't play them anymore this year. With LA and Nashville loading up and Kane injured for 6-10 and potentially missing the first round of the playoffs. Glencross would be better than anyone they can replace him with in their top six. If Teuvo doesn't produce it will leave a hole on their third line because they will have to move up Versteeg.

If he were to go for a 1st and a legit prospect, sign me up.

Wideman lost favor last year when he started out last year as the #1 d man for the first 20 games ahead of Gio and then broke his hand and came back and played like a one armed D-men (crap) and then got hurt again. somehow the mob got it into their head that despite Hartley playing him a minute and a half less than Norris candidate Gio that Wideman and Glencross sucks at all things hockey and are a big part the reason the Flames are not challenging for the president trophy or at least home ice in round 1 and not part of the reason they are actually in the playoff race at the trade deadline. They must think that Hartley is a doufus that really doesn't understand hockey.

Maybe they are having so much fun with the rebuild and the paper team of 2016 they have morphed into Oiler-type fans.

Gio is the same age as Wideman .... Probably should get a couple of 1st rounders for him now because when Bennett is 25 and hitting his prime Gio will be 30 freaking 9.

Do you even read what you type?

Wideman, Russell, Gio, Brodie Monahan Hudler. and Gaudreau ALL might see a performance drop off.

In fact chances are that Hudler, Russell, Wideman, Gio and Brodie are all having career seasons and maybe 5 first round picks might be better than actually having a hockey team contending for a playoff spot.

Calgary would likely be one of the top destinations for two way defensemen because of the style that the Flames employ. This is important when it comes to the offseason and free agency. They would be better able to generate points as a Flame vs most other places, and more points leads to bigger contracts afterwards. Plus you have the whole team on the rise angle.

Also, teams will be in cap trouble in the offseason with the cap going down, so we might be able to pick off a quality guy that has a bad contract from a team that needs to go in another direction like Boston/Chicago did when they dealt Boychuk/Leddy to the Isles.

Glencross taking warmup. As usual #Flames. Some thought he might have been held out.

Nobody said to trade off four of those 5 guys. Just the worst of the group and only if the trade offer was an overpayment.

In the scenario posted, we would be losing Wideman's services for 18 games before we can find a quality replacement in the offseason when prices are lower, and there are more options available.

I might be in the minority but I'm starting to think getting a 2nd for Glencross might not be possible. I value Glencross more than Winnik and Tlusty, but every ranking board I have seen has had those 2 well before Glencross. Tlusty got a 3rd in 2016 and 5th this year. Even Winnik's 2nd rounder is not for this year. I'm not even going to bother pipe dreaming about getting a solid prospect from another team. It's looking like picks are what teams rather give up.

Unless we part with Monahan/Bennett/Brodie, no.
