True. I mean, you could trade for the rights to Marty Brodeur (who I guess could un-retire) and no doubt has had a better career than Hiller. But who'se better now?
More realistically, Brouwer in fairness seems to be on better career trajectory than Curtis, though I suppose at 29 he may be peaking this year.

I never said Glencross is the better player right now, but for him to say that Brouwer is clearly the better player is false. Glencross has played better hockey with not as good of quality players Brouwer has had.

I'd do Brouwer for Glencross in a second. Make it happen.

To summarize..
Glencross is on the decline (in terms of flames need/want) - Trade him now
Glencross to the caps looks "imminent" - What could we get in return?
Brouwer is basically the Glencross of the Washington Capitals
Brouwer speculated to be a piece in the trade, some say the only piece
Glencross's numbers = Brouwer's numbers (close enough) = Why bother
I think I'd prefer Tom Watson (Wilson)

Trotz was on fan 590 yesterday saying that it would be tough to trade Mike Green because he is playing well and is a big part of their team. He won't be a part of the deal unless it is a bigger deal.

If the Flames want Green they will pursue him in free agency as I don't see the Caps wanting to part with him without expecting significant return.

If the Flames could somehow pry Madison Bowey away from Washington that would be incredible, even if we needed to add on our end.
Great skater, great passer, tough, smart, size and good character. And he's a right shot to boot. He has top 2 upside imo. But then why is Washington going to give up on a player like that.... it's a pipe dream.

While Glencross is arguably on the decline that is not why he's being moved. His UFA status and probable demands are.
Since Brouwer is not a UFA, it's impossible to think it would be a straight trade.
The reason you'd bother is the two year age difference, the size difference and the positional difference. Plus, of course, the contract status.

PPG is an individualistic statistic and it usually only makes an appearance in 'ya but' comparisons.
No team looks at a guys points per game and goes "gee whiz I bet he'll play 82 games for us." If you play 75% of the games, that's a significant strike against you, not something to hang your hat on. Brouwer has played 82 games twice in the last 3 years. Glencross has never played 82. Since becoming a full time NHL'er, Brouwer has never played less than 78 games. Since becoming a full-time NHL'er, Glencross has played more than 78 games once.
Games played matters, and it matters most when you're talking about bringing in a player to play games in a limited time frame for you.
That is all ignoring the quality of the minutes Washington gets from Brouwer are way better minutes than the quality Glencross provides to Calgary. Brouwer has 9 more goals then Glencross in 10 more games played.

I'm not sure what I hope for me, the Flames not to target Brouwer in a trade or people to stop comparing Glencross to Brouwer.
I'd rather they went for someone young but as long as the trade is made soon we can stop talking about who's the Glencross of what team.

Why are people de-valuing Glencross here? These are the guys that traded Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat at the deadline last year. Hopefully BM pulls a George MacPhee.

Brouwer was never involved in trade talks, he was just a player I mentioned that is of similar value to Glencross.

That's like saying it's likely Treliving signs an offer sheet and almost lose the player and the pick for nothing.
Different management is different management.

Edited original post. intention was not meant as in "decline in skill" more so decline in loss of favor within the organization.
UFA, I'll give you that though his salary on our books doesn't really mean much when we're so far below the cap anyway.
Size/Position you can also get a point for, but again can we not use someone in our farm to cover that for the rest of the season?
If its not a straight trade, then it may be worth exploring, at the end of the day I don't see Brouwer being any more effected then Glencross has been in the long run. Would rather let a rookie eat up some more minutes and see if they can turn into something positive.

You're right, Glencross is definitely concerning, given his past injuries. But, when healthy he's a good 2nd/3rd liner just like Brouwer. Brouwer and Glencross play that same gritty style of play, but Brouwer is far more grittier. Glencross on the other hand, is just as good of a goal scorer (not sure what is going on this year, he's been missing the net quite a bit) and also a better playmaker than Brouwer.

You wouldn't get Brouwer for Glencross.

There's no way the team acquiring Glencross is sending back a good roster player, these are teams who are in the hunt giving up young assets for a rental...
Only way a veteran roster player type comes back is if the picks/prospects acquired are flipped to a non-playoff team in a 3 way trade.

Or a bigger trade with one team.
