Is Green one of those possible big salary guys? I admit I haven't followed the situation much.

Re: Kessel
Signed @ 8M per, for 7 more seasons after this one. He will turn 34 years old at the beginning of his final contract year.
High price-tag, but guy is undoubtedly a top 10 RW in the league (IMO he's top 5). His stock is low at the moment and I think you need to seriously consider adding him if you're in our position.

Just did a quick glance, Flame have 12 M in cap space. Then he wants to move Stajan, Ramyond and Glencross. that another 8+ M to tack on. Giving 20 m in cap.
Say he does go out and acquire Kessel. That puts them back down to 12m in cap and two extra contract slots. That isn't consider the idea that more contracts and money doesn't move out in the acquisition.
I hope he doesn't go after Kessel. Even though he's pretty much exactly what the Flames should be shopping for anyways. Natural RW who can score.
I want to think Kypreos is smoking some strong pharma-weed.

But you don't think the guys in the dressing room would be a little pissed off that they are 1 point out of the playoffs and the team is selling UFAs and not adding anything to help now?
Not sure why rebuild means you have to trade every veteran for picks/prospects.
|
If the guys in the room are talking, I think it's more about how much ice time Glencross got in the last five minutes last night for a guy who hasn't broken a sweat in months.

the more I think about it, the more I think Calgary will be the suitor for Vermette.
Fills a big time organizational need, top 6 centre who can win draws.
Send Arizona some cap certainty the other way with Raymond/Bollig/Stajan/England.

I thought about that after they reported the Flames had scouts at the Arizona game, I am a little worried about the price of Vermette..
He is the top dog in what is a very lean year for deadline acquisitions.

To counter that concern a bit. Does Trelivings relationship with Maloney soften the blow a bit?

Trying to move out Stajan, Glencross and Raymond? I wouldn't be against it.
I have hard time seeing Kessel and HArtley getting along but...
Gaudreau Monahan Kessel
Could be deadly.

Seems odd that Treliving wants to shed salary. but considering the guys he wants to shed, maybe it makes sense. Raymond is eminently replaceable. Glencross seems to be out the door regardless and Stajan is playing low minutes against 4th liners.
Wouldn't getting rid of even one of these guys put us below the cap floor?

Not sure but that's the reason you'd either be picking up salary in another deal or doing this only in the offseason.

Flames are at roughly 56.792 cap hit. Floor is 52 M. Can move Glencross out yes, but moving out one of the other two along with Glenny would put them below without salary coming back in.

I think these media guys sometimes just get a feel for which fanbase has the most buzz at the moment and goes from there. Kypreos likes to stir the pot.

If you remove ten other players from the Flames roster, Glencross is the best sniper.

I think you have to pro-rate it though, for dollars already paid to those players. We probably could move two of Stajan/Glencross/Raymond and still clear cap floor by year's end.
My theory is we move out some salary for futures and then move a big package for a player(s) with term, probably including Sven and picks. I could see us moving a 1st rounder but we'll end up with a 1st rounder by the draft.

Just seems really odd that the Flames would want or even need to make romm cap wise for a large acquisition like Kessel when you can add him and then a couple more on top of that. If anything, if there is merit to what Kypreos said, it's more about maybe opening contract space.

Both Stajan and Raymond have been given time away from the team for family reasons. Anyone not paying enough attention to the reason, just seeing a bunch of callups in and those two out might speculate that they are being traded.
I think it is a reach by Kypreos, and trying to generate a story where none exists

I think some of it is the fact the Flames are still in rebuilding mode. If you can move out Stajan and Raymond for assets you do it. Guys like Kessel will be a salary dump by their club so it won't cost the Flames much.
Shift around some players, come out on top with some picks.

Did Glencross score like 15 goals without anyone noticing to pass the 10 players that were ahead of him?
