I don't think you can say Duhatschek says a 2nd round pick is the probable or correct value, can you? He said it'd be a home run, which I interpret as saying it's extremely unlikely.

A second, or a second and prospect, in a deep draft would be a home run, but not beyond discussion. I think that it's much more likely that we see a prospect change hands, probably one that is blocked in another system somehow.
Duhatschek probably mentioned a second, because a third would be light. But what lies inbetween? More than a picks for player trade.

Agreed. Expect a lot of disappointment in the return if he is dealt. A lot of "We only got that for him?"
Cammalleri went from a first plus prospect to second plus prospect to we'll take a second to we are keeping him. If we are having this much discussion on a potential return for Glencross I hope Bingo boosts the server if we hold on to him.
Instead of a pick & prospect, my hope is that we forget the pick, and trade him for a decent defensive prospect or defensive roster player.
Although we shouldn't deviate from the long term rebuild plan, the playoffs are a real possibility THIS year, and our bottom pairing D are woeful. Taking a chance on another club's defensive project couldn't hurt our bottom pair, that is for sure. Realistically, a trade for Glencross could garner at least a bottom pairing, NHL-ready D-man.
And in my opinion, a trade like this wouldn't be detrimental to the long term rebuild plan, and would help us make the playoffs. It would also help to alleviate some minutes from the top 2 pairings so they aren't worn out come playoff time.
I get enough of that in the summer off my 50 thousand dollar Ski Nautique. Judging by how much your trolling me, i really should be inviting you out fishing with me. You poor guy you
Okay this is hilarious. How did this post slip through the collective radar.

The funny thing is a bunch of fans will speculate about Glencross' value for weeks, and propose all sorts of deals that have no substance. And then they'll be disappointed when the return falls short of those fantasy deals.
"I thought a deal for Devon Pelly-Smith was in the works?"
"What!? The Connolly deal sounded better than this junk!"
"So there was talk of a 2nd and a prospect, and now it's just a 2nd? What happened?"

Well, duh. That's what a FORUM is for - speculation and discussion.

Sure. But fan speculation has no bearing on what NHL GMs are really proposing. It's just people making stuff up, and shouldn't be a yardstick to assess real trades and act disappointed in them.

You mean disappointment because like Cammalleri he doesn't get traded because that's what's going to happen if the Flames don't think they are getting value. If he gets dealt it's going to be a solid return otherwise he's not going to get dealt. And when I say solid return it's going to be a 2nd round pick or some sort of deal involving a decent prospect. Bottom line is if he gets dealt Flames fans will likely be happy with the return and if he doesn't get dealt then there may be some disappointment but if the days of big deadline deals are drying up then so be it. Flames have already established under the new management that they aren't into trading roster players for disappointing returns to help other teams out.

If it becomes a league-wide trend that pending UFAs are no longer dealt because the returns are low, that will be one thing. If the Flames are the only team holding on to UFAs because they overvalue their players, that's another. Weren't you the one leading the chorus mocking Cheveldayoff for overvaluing his own players and not getting deals done? So it's dumb and stubborn if another team takes that stance, but wise and principled if the Flames do?
