So basically in an episode that everybody complained was more filler than anything else, one of the biggest complaints is that the took out one of the big chunks of filler.
We missed 5 minutes of them talking about how lucky they were; how localized the storm was and/or how the path of the tornado just missed the barn.

It was evident there was some nasty weather, my issue was when Sasha & Maggie woke everyone was asleep spread out all over the barn. That's not how I would expect them to respond to that situation.

Except Darryl was still up. So he could have easily volunteered to take the first shift at watch. Rick would have told him to wake him up for relief in 3 hours, and Darryl just let him sleep.
I guess I have a bigger issue with how convenient the storm was. Strong enough to uproot trees and incapacitate all the zombies, but happened to miss the barn. At least when they pulled the same stunt in Z-Nation, they had enough decency to have one of the actors say "well, at least it isn't sharks."

I actually thought Daryl was delusional at first, when Maggie looked at him I couldn't see walkers behind the door so I thought he was holding off imaginary walkers and it was just the wind. The way it was edited sure didn't indicate it was real.

Re: the 'dream' sequence
Another example of a possibly strong piece of symbolism that lost all relevance due to its poor execution in ambiguity.
If it was real, we have to buy the fact that at some point the storm was strong and close enough to suck up the walkers and relieve all tension on the barn doors. A storm so fierce and utterly miraculous that somehow it still let the group splay themselves out for some sleep.
If it was a dream, whose dream was it? And how does the symbolism work, exactly, if it's from a single person's perspective?

i'm surprised you guys had so much trouble with the storm plot. having lived just about my whole life in the midwest and the last few years here in the middle of tornado alley, a situation like that is not uncommon at all.
years back, in illinois we had a gustnado (not quite a tornado but packed 130mph winds) and it blew apart the commercial building next to our house. the roof structure broke off and hit a large tree in our back yard knocking it over. was a total mess. yet our house only sustained debris damage from the collapsed structure. no wind damage.
crazy stuff like that happens with tornadoes and such. it often plays on the minds of survivors as they see houses across the street destroyed but their own 100% ok.
with that said, i do agree the writing in general was weak. i didnt realize they were battling severe weather until the morning. i just assumed the night time event was a battle against walkers that saw the light from their fires.

Pretty good episode IMO.
Kept waiting for the other shoe to drop with respect to Aaron. So far it hasn't.

Yeah, same here. But part of me wonders if maybe this place is actually good but the group is just too far gone to get it together enough to pass the evaluation or whatever Aaron was talking about.

The preview for next week kind of hints to them being overly paranoid and emotionally damaged in what should be a safe haven. So maybe that is the angle.

It was a W. It stands something apparently, but I've only heard snippets and we're not allowed to talk about them in this thread.

I would assume the W stands for Wolves. There "appear" in the show 2 episodes ago.
As mentioned in this post:

If it is in the show you are fine to talk about/speculate about it.

Nope, it stands for something else apparently that has not been mentioned in the show. That's all I'll say.

See that to me is the type of thing you shouldn't be saying.

I missed last weeks episode on account of it being the long weekend. So even watching both episodes back to back, that whole barn episode fell flat for me. A few interesting spots, like the storm, and wild dogs, and I do think Darryl smoking that cigarette and then breaking down was pretty good. Other than that, snorefest.
The new episode was super solid though. It'll be interesting to see what angle they take on Alexandria. They can't go with the whole power-hungry leader. They already went through that. I was thinking maybe they're gearing up for war with another community, but the angle of Rick's group being the violent, unstable group to destabilize an otherwise good community would be a neat twist too.
Edit: Also, FLARE IN THE FACE

It's kind of interesting that Rick is kind of losing his power with the group.
He used to be sort of a dictator where everyone just followed and now he seems to be getting softer and is more open to a democratic approach or even have his decisions be questioned by others in the group.
Like others, I was totally expecting the evil in Aaron and Eric to appear but to no avail.... thus far. Maybe they're actually nice guys!
