Yeah I got an email from someone else that had a similar thing.

The IP address is from China, so it's just typical Chinese hackers trying to log into accounts. Not much can be done about that, I banned the IP address it was coming from but they just get a different IP.

according to the internet the IP address comes from Utah.

More spam I guess?

Ace Data Centers is what that IP comes up as, so spammers renting servers.

This spammers trying to log into accounts is something kind of new, I'm seeing a lot of reports about this recently and have had almost zero in the past.

I'm not sure how effective it can be because accounts are temporarily disabled after a few failed login attempts.

That's from one I got just in the last couple of hours.

Banning the IPs is pretty much a waste of time if I ban one 10 more will take its place.

Not much can really be done, just make sure your password is robust (like 12 characters long or more) and not a really easy to guess one.

They got into an account today. Just a reminder to set a robust password, as photon said.

Maybe good to post up on the main forums for those that don't read here.

I haven't had this on CP but did on another forum I used to frequent.

Still don't get what the point is. Just to spam the forums under a normal account?

I got a pm from 18flames asking me to click on a link about "sporting goods" so it was basically spam . I noticed the account already had a lifetime suspension. Good on the mods for staying on top of everything. You guys don't get enough thanks for keeping this place awesome.

I'm not very gameboy savy, and I also received a message from flames18. I didn't click on any links or nonsense like that. Would I be best off to change my password anyways? I wish I could beat the internet within an inch of its life.

Basically spam PMs from your account, that's about it. I suppose if your email address password and your CP password were the same they could get into your email, but I doubt they even try that, it's just spam rather than malicious hackers.

Doesn't hurt to change your password, but if you got a PM from flames18 it just means that their account password was guessed not yours.
