Have to agree... it was perhaps just Mackenzie or some other journalist throwing a touted name out there in response to the Flames being interested in Kane. There's no way in hell Bennett would be part of that deal.
I haven't commented on here in a long time and generally enjoy reading the threads, but I am quite surprised by the responses of many CPers on here questioning the readiness and talent level of Sam as compared to his drafted peers last spring and whether he'd be able to compete right now. I'm stoked that the flames drafted this kid and even high-fived my wife when they selected him (she had no idea what was going on). This kid is going to be a stud...far and away the most dynamic and talented flame prospect since Fleury.

In a recent interview on flames.nhl.com they show some clips of him skating at practice... He looks so frail/small framed right now. There was a moment where he was standing beside Jooris and he looks about 2/3 his size. He can't be bigger than 170 right now.
I'm thinking, maybe just junior. The AHL is no pushover league for featherweights. This is where the less disciplined goons and bit players make a living

No idea what clip you're referring to but it is not an indication of where he actually is.
I have seen him live in practice in the last week and he is definitely bigger than he was in training camp. He looks very average sized, relative to the rest of the team - very middle-of-the-pack.
In fact, I was watching him and Glencross get bag-skated together and the thing that struck me was that he looked pretty much exactly the same size as Glencross, and had just about exactly the same amount of power and speed on the first stride from standing still.
It was like watching twins

I think it would be insanity to take an 18 yo kid who is coming off major surgery, expect him to play his first competitive hockey in 5 months against pros in the heat of a playoff chase in the AHL, and then throw him to the wolves of the NHL race right after that.
Thats how you destroy young guys....lesson 1.
Send him to Kingston, let him finish that season (however long it lasts) and then call him up to either Addy or Calgary to get acclimatized and after a bit get him some game action if possible...if not, see him in September. No harm, no foul.

Bringing him in full time, sure. But what about the flip side of that argument... Take a young determined kid ranked first in his draft class, let him spend 3/4 of a season training with his heroes, integrate him into full contact practice with the team, all the while describing him as a tiger in a cage chomping at the bit. Only to get him in shape to play, then kicking him off the team. I can't imagine the proverbial cup of coffee having any more negative drawbacks than the scenario I described (which he is currently living).

Don't think you understood my post. Anyways, I don't think either way will have as massive an impact as is being argued by others on development, in this case.

He's been training in the gym with the guys, plus he's been around behind the scenes as well.
I'm not advocating throwing him straight into a game, but I don't think he looks too out of shape.

Im sure he is in great shape....but no where even close to game shape nevermind up to game speed.
I know he has been with the team all along but that was for one reason only...the very best medical attention he can receive after major surgery.
Again there is WAY less chance of things going wrong in Kingston for a couple months versus throwing a competely raw 18YO in against professionals who have been playing for 5 months now and are ramping things up even mre as they get embroiled in a playoff race....whether that be in Adinrondack or Calgary

Tonight's the night someone will make an argument in such a way that all of CP is convinced on what the one true course of action that is best for Sam Bennett is. I can feel it.

Everytime this thread is bumped I look for changes in the title to see where Bennett is going.

The longer this waits the more, to me at least, it seems like they are waiting to create space for Sam. If the rumoured Glencross deal happens anytime soon I could see Bennett getting a taste of ... Soda pop! (not coffee )
That said every part of me thinks/feels the rational choice is Kingston.

Adirondack plays two games this weekend and two more the next weekend. If he's going down to the A, it could be this week.
I'd guess after the Wild game. We play the Ducks on Friday but than travel east where we can recall any players that are needed from Adirondack.

All they have to do is send Wolf back down to make roster space.

My question at this point is how come the NHL is allowing him to remain off the active roster if he isn't injured?

Maybe another NHL team has requested an independent physical before they obtain Bennett in a trade. That could explain the delay.

I believe it's because he hasn't been activated off of IR
