Water heater repair/replacement
Mine went kaput over night. Small flood and now I need it looked at, likely replaced. Anyone know someone dependable? Thanks
There was a thread earlier that had plumber recommendation, or perhaps it was in the GMG's thread. But I can't seem to find it currently.

Silcraft saved my butt two days before Christmas last year. I would definately use them again. See post #12 in the above link. He replaced my hot water tank.

I had a 12 year warranty from a box store. It would have taken a total of about two weeks to get service. The company that came out to trouble shoot the problem tried to tell me that my venting violated recent revisions in code. That would mean an extra $250. I asked Silcraft about the venting violating code. He said there were no code violations.
Guess who I think is more trustworthy.

When my tank went, I was fortunate that my cousin is a plumber and was able to do it for me. However when he originally couldn't come out right away, I did price around a little bit. Pete the Plumber came in as a reasonable price (supply and install about double what wholesale cost was.) They also sponsor the Flames, Hitmen and Roughnecks; which is also a plus in my books.
The only reason I was able to hang on, my cousin and I managed to MacGyver the old tank to work for a couple more weeks.

It doesn't take too much googling to figure out that code has changed, and venting muct be replaced when the tank is changed.
On my house, I didn't even change the tank, just installed a high efficiency furnace (which removed the furnace from using that vent), and I had to change the venting.

If you are changing a natural draft hot water tank that has 3" venting you must change it to 4" venting. Other then that just the standard code clauses apply on length, support etc...

Your tank will need replaced. They are easy to replace
I don't live in Calgary so I'm not certain on plumbing prices. The company that I work for charge between $900 and $1000
Just make sure its vented properly. 3 inch to 4 inch etc and that the gasline is hooked back up
If you wanted to do it yourself all you need is a torch, solder and 2 couplings that would save you the labor costs

Yeah, I did it myself when I lived in Calgary. I bought the same brand just a size larger and everything hooked right up. I had to do some brazing but that was it.

Haha sorry about that. I'll admit that I was in a bit of a hurry to get something lined up and once I did spent the morning cleaning out the furnace room as the water spread around in there, but stayed out of the rest of my basement.
I ended up going with Instant Plumbing. I have no complaints. They showed up, did a good job and I showered shortly after they left.

I would highly NOT recommend using ARO Plumbing and Heating.
Used them in a bind and found out after the fact that their pricing was nearly double what it should have been. Also took forever to receive manufacturer refund from them.
