I bought industrial clippers that a barber would use from a salon supply store. You have to be a licensed hairstylist to shop there, though. So I made up some business cards that said "Sliver's Salon" and gave those to the cashier saying I forgot my stylist ID. There was another supply store down the street that sold to me, but they were hesitant to do so. I think the concern is you'd be starting a basement salon and they want to discourage that in their industry, which I get. But I was just a bald dude tired of the crappy clippers you can get at Shopper's and wanted something better. Very happy I stuck to my guns though as my clippers are sweet.

This is an awesome story.

Another option, in case your sweet clippers every go south on you, is to buy dog clippers. Not kidding at all. I know dogs aren't really your cup of pet, but it's the same thing, and you can buy industrial dog-grooming clippers at places like PetSmart.

I've used dog clippers for years on my beard, and if shaving my head was my cup of hair-do, I'd use them up top too.

The IT guy that manages our phone system wears a toupee. Not sure if he knows how blatantly obvious it is. One shade of brown on top, a noticeably darker shade of brown around the perimeter. It's pretty bad.

Just don't. You're not a southern belle at the Kentucky Derby, and toupees aren't hats. You're a dude in his 30s. Be a man and accept what you've got. Toupees are worse than comb overs.

As for clippers, it pisses me off that I have to buy new ones every 2-3 years. I also have that stupid Conair palm thing and it sucks ass. All it does is mow down some of the mange, then I have to follow it up with the clippers. Thanks for adding a step, Conair.

I think the next set I buy (which will be very soon), I'm going to definitely be looking into that dog clipper idea. Or maybe I'll temporarily hook up with a hairdresser and get the real ones. Decisions.

Just count yourself lucky you arnt in the 70's when every dude had to have a shoulder length mop of luxurious hair flowing behing them like Wayne.

There are certain advantages to being a dude, not having to worry about hair loss is right up there with not having to shave your nads.

I have a cheap remmington that just rips my hair out. I can't decide if it's annoyed me enough to stay away from the brand, because the Remmington titanium my parents have works wonders..

I'm just talking about that palm puck thing I have from Conair. It's useless if you have more than just really thin hair. It only gets patches here and there, so you end up having to go over your entire head with the clippers anyway. Conair clippers are just as good (or bad) as anything else you get at Walmart or Shoppers. They last for 2-3 years before they bind up over and over and over until you smash them on your counter and then go buy a new set with a hat on.
