I bought industrial clippers that a barber would use from a salon supply store. You have to be a licensed hairstylist to shop there, though. So I made up some business cards that said "Sliver's Salon" and gave those to the cashier saying I forgot my stylist ID. She called a manager and they fataing kicked me out of the store saying it was "illegal" for them to sell to me. Yeah, I'm sure.

There was another supply store down the street that sold to me, but they were hesitant to do so. I think the concern is you'd be starting a basement salon and they want to discourage that in their industry, which I get. But I was just a bald dude tired of the crappy clippers you can get at Shopper's and wanted something better. Very happy I stuck to my guns though as my clippers are sweet.

That sounds like a lot of effort to get some industrial clippers. Calling BS on this one.

I've been fortunate to not have any noticeable male pattern baldness yet (knock on wood). I say that because I shaved my head once and I am downright fugly bald. Some dudes pull it off quite well and are even better looking bald, but not me. If I had to, I would opt for a toupee or other types of hair replacement, and would feel no shame doing so.

100% true dude. They're harder to track down than you may think. Why would I even lie? That would be ridiculous.

I agree. Please show me the district where there are two industrial hair salon supply shops on the same street.

Maybe that Rogaine stuff works and it killed the toupee market?

He is 32 now, but he started wearing one around 24. Being bald basically makes you look ten years older, so I have a lot of sympathy for him losing hair in his early twenties.

I think it is more about protecting the wholesale price of the items their selling. Many of the items the distributers are selling are sold marked up at hair salons. So product, Straiteners curlers, hair dye, ect is all sold at cost.

Its likely in their distribution agreement with their suppliers that they can't sell direct to the public.

Let's not go down a road from which we can never return......

I assume you have some reason for not shopping on line to get these highly prized clippers

I've gone recently from using the clippers with no guard, to now doing that plus taking the trusty gilette to my head as well. Gives me a couple more days before the horseshoe is too obvious.

Hah, there actually is a hair salon supply district in Calgary. It's on 11th Street SE. Here are two of the businesses, and if memory serves, there was at least one more along there.

Summit Salon Services. #3, 6320 11th Street SE.

DK Beauty Systems. #11, 6320 11th Street SE.

lol.

This is going back a few years, but it was a slow day at work so I called the industrial supply place in Calgary to see if they had any of the ones I wanted in stock. They did, but they said I need to be a licensed hairdresser or whatever to shop there. I said of course I was. Then I just whipped up a business card in Publisher based off a template (two minute job) thinking that would satisfy their requirements. I was wrong (for shop number one, anyway). Went down the street to another store and they gave me the goods.

I don't see why this strikes so many of you as implausible. It's exactly what happened.
