Default Feb 17 Practice - Hiller starts against Wild

Optional practice today.

Won't be able to glean too much into the lineup against the Wild.

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Forwards Bennett, Bollig, Colborne, Stajan & Wolf, defencemen Diaz & Potter, goaltender Ramo only players on the ice for #Flames practice.
not really a surprise

Going by that, here's the lineup for tomorrow:

Colborne-Bennett-Wolf
Bollig-Stajan

Diaz-Potter

Ramo

We're gonna get creamed!

Ramo is so finished here... Im sure they try and trade him but his performance doesn't help him go anywhere.

Typical Hartley. Let Bennett play 50%+ of the game but drag him down with pluggers

I'd rather keep Ramo as our backup, let Ortio develop in the minors for the last half of the season.

Hiller will be getting majority of the starts barring any collapse from him, no point letting Ortio benchwarm when he could be playing.

I'd love to get something for Ramo but would also prefer Ortio to finish the season with Adirondack.

I don't understand the Ramo hate, in my opinion, the guy has played quite well considering his limited playing time. Maybe he should have stopped the Krug backhander, but hard to fault him on the first two Bruins goals.

As always with goalies, confidence is the most important factor in their performance. It's hard to be confident when you haven't been given a start in over a month and you haven't won a start in over 2 months. Hartley knows this and he tried to get Ramo's confidence back up a little with back to back starts despite some shaky play in the first start, but with so much at stake in each game, he can't afford to let Ramo figure his game out at the expense of team results.

Hiller is very confident at the moment, hence why he's playing more. He'll give you a couple big saves every game at key moments, which is why the team is winning more with him in net. Hiller isn't perfect, but as long as he's confident he's the more valuable goaltender.

I don't know how many different threads this has to be pointed out in, but a 2 on 0 breakaway goal short handed is far from the goalie's fault. And a slapper screened from one of the hardest shots in the league, come on, not his fault.

Just Krug goal, he should have had. But I still can't believe that people want him run out of town. We finally have a capable backup and people want him traded, I don't get it.

I agree with you...but playing devils advocate, I don't think you lose anything by bringing Ortio up and getting an asset for Ramo.

If we look at last year, we got a 2nd for Berra. A repeat of that return would be an outstanding result IMHO.

That said, having Ramo work the pine and the 2nd half of back-to-back games would be ok too.

Ramo is a fine back up and would be a sufficient replacement should anything happen to Hiller, especially post trade deadline.

Man Hiller has been beat short side plenty of times this season.
That was a rolling puck, and a good shot to boot. Just because it's a short side goal doesn't make it one he should have. All goalie get beat short side. Happened to kipper quite a bit too. Just sayin...

This. I like Ramo, but he very likely won't be here next season. It's not a matter of getting rid of him because I want to see him gone, I'm weighing how much we need him vs what could we get for him.

I like that Colborne is at an optional practice today - shows some serious commitment.

When Ramo sets the modern day goals against average record for a season, I'll cut him some shortside slack.

I think it's not so much a matter of running Ramo out of town, it's a matter of seeing the writing on the wall. Ramo is unsigned for next season. Ortio made a case for NHL promotion this season, but didn't stick because we have too many NHL goalies. It seems more likely than not that Ramo will not be here next season. Given that, it would be a bonus to get something for him compared to letting him walk.

Ramo has shown he can be a capable back-up and intermittent starter, and I'm personally fine with him returning next season as a back-up. We'll see what unfolds.

A shot from that far out with no screen needs to be stopped, no matter how nice of shot it was, imo.

Did it tip Wideman's stick on the way by? That my have changed the shot.
