Trading Glencross would sure be an encouraging sign that the organization is in good hands. In the past we never would have considered trading a vet while in contention, hell Burke wouldn't even trade Cammi last year.
We have plenty of players who can replace him and we should not let another valuable asset walk away for nothing.
He has had a very nice career with the Flames and he'll always have a place in our history, but it is time to make the move, regardless of our place in the standings.

I wouldn't be so concerned dealing him to Anaheim. This entire season is pure gravy. Sure we all want to do well in the playoffs this year but ultimately that's not the goal. The goal is to build a contender, that means you shed now for future still.
I wouldn't trade him to Winnipeg because part of building a contender is playoff experience for young players early so that they understand what it means to play in the real season. Because we're fighting with them for that final playoff spot it makes no sense to trade him there.
But with Anaheim, we need to be a bit realistic. We aren't going to lose a playoff series to Anaheim because of a +/- Glencross. We'd lose because Anaheim is the much better team.

A first round pick: i'm ok with the trade
a mid-late 2nd round pick: i'd rather have him for a run for the post season.
take whatever you can get: No. I like the model of holding the price. I also like the way the team handled Cammalleri after the trade deadline, by basically saying "your market value is a mid 3rd round pick. If you're expecting to hit a home run this offseason, you'd better be picking it up"
I don't see a lot of value in trading him for another role playing prospect. We've got a number of those who are pressing for NHL icetime. Adding another Agostino or Hanowski or Van Brabent or Shore or Rienhart doesn't intrigue me at all.
The way he is being treated in this thread though ... this is how Oiler fans treat their players as they run them out of town. We're better than this as Flames fans.

This guy is 19th all time in Games Played for the Franchise, 15th in Goals scored and 23rd in Points...all during a very low scoring era.
Any true Flames fan should recognize his great contributions to the franchise.
That said, trading him is absolutely the right move, and we should all wish him well moving forward.

The teams interested in Glencross will likely be looking to give up picks or prospects that currently aren't NHL ready. It wouldn't make sense for a team to ship out a young D that might be #6 or #7 on the depth chart when loading up for a playoff run. If the Flames trade Glencross it almost certainly won't make them better this season, which is a poor message to send to a team in the hunt.

I would target Boston, their picks will project to be 10 spots better than ANA or PIT.
I doubt we can get a 1st for him, but I'd take a 2nd

Or would it be saying that the Flames have as much faith in their prospects as they do in under-performing veterans. I like that message.

Trading Glencross would create competition down in Addy for the forward roster spot since our roster has been healthy as of late.
If the contract extensions aren't going anywhere, trade him. It was a different situation for Cammy because he did want to re-sign with us, a deal just didn't work out.

I would also add that we are likely trading picks or prospects to improve our D...so getting some back for Glencross would help alleviate that loss.

Before his injury I thought he was back to playing the power forward game. After his injury, it's back to the same old crap from last year. Drop passes that rarely land and taking long point shots instead of driving to the net. Half of his career goals were scored by driving the net and scoring on virtually every 2-on-1 opportunity or deflecting pucks from in close. He's no longer going to the net and looks disinterested in the offensive zone. Some of you really need to take off your homer glasses..

I imagine "Half of his career goals" were assisted by a certain first ballot hall of fame right winger...so..you know...

Any chance GlenX gets us one of these d-men in the Ducks system (lifted from HF)?
1. Shea Theodore CHL 7.5 C
2. Marcus Pettersson Europe 7.5 C
3. Brandon Montour NCAA 7.5 D
4. Andy Welinski NCAA 7.0 D

I have absolutely no idea what kind of point you are trying to make in this condescending tone..
Glencross most definitely didn't play much with Iginla.. He was a 3rd liner for most of his career which is part of what made it impressive that he was able to score so many goals.
Also Iginla doesn't pass as he's a shooter like Glencross.
I'm astonished that you've been a member since 2009 and didn't know that.

No on Theodore, they just picked Pettersson in 2014, and not sure about the other two.

Put me in the camp that is worried about the morale in the room if Glencross is traded. I've no doubt that players realize this is a business, but in that respect I think the trade needs to look good to those in the room.
If they receive something irresistible in exchange, I get a feeling that the players would realize that's necessary business. If they ship out Glencross for a nameless 2nd round pick in 2015, I don't think it looks great. Especially if, for whatever reason, the team's play declines post-trade and they get edged out of the playoffs.

I'd like to see Flames get a d-prospect with a year or two of AHL ripening already completed. Not sure how much os a stretch that is.
I have to think the Nashville trade is forcing the hand of other contending teams. Preds look pretty deep now.

Or it could help morale if someone working their butts off on the farm gets a chance. It seemed to help the room last year.

I also don't get how having a great passer would make it mean less. Does Hull get ridiculed for having Oates as his set up man for a lot of his goals? No.

This doesnt concern me at all. If they trade Glencross its because another prospect is ready to fill his void. This entirely matches the earned never given mantra. I think they can handle this well for everyone involved (Glencross, locker room, prospect getting called up).

Fine, keeping him doesn't hurt the team, just helps their playoff chances.
So normally I would say that Theodore is way to pricey of a return for Glencross, but given this position of power go ahead and shoot for the moon.

You forgot the green text. Also, Burke is no longer the GM so Treliving will have to show that he will not be pushed around to gain that type of leverage over his colleagues.
