Default Brocket 99..... It wasn't me

https://greetergrammer1.wordpress.co...of-brocket-99/

Mark Campbell sets the record straight, or at least tries to yet again.

I listened to a lot of Brocket 99 when I was a kid. It was funny at the time... now it seems pretty pathetic.

In any case - who is Mark Campbell?

He's the interviewer in this interview of the guy who was making a documentary. Notice the shot at the end.

I still chuckle when scraping the windshield with my social security card. Or when going to my father in laws with a case of beer. And who doesn't like ACDC!

This happened close to Brocket a year ago. Must be something in the water:

Stranded in the cold with no kindling? Don’t set your car on fire, warn Pincher Creek Mounties.
Fire crews from the town 230 km south of Calgary were called to a vehicle fire Dec. 28 on a rural road between Pincher Creek and the Piikani First Nation.
There they found the smouldering remains of a Honda, along with the remains of a second fire in the middle of the road. A quick search of the area located the two occupants of the car at a nearby house.
Pincher Creek RCMP said the pair were travelling home to Lethbridge from Crowsnest Pass overnight Saturday when they somehow found themselves lost on country roads east of Pincher Creek, eventually losing control and careening into a ditch.
With overnight temperatures dropping to around -15C and fearing for their safety, the duo removed the crashed vehicle’s seats and lit them on fire in the middle of the road, along with all of their personal belongings.
When that fire went out, the two men decided to set their car alight.
“They actually had two fires going,” said Cpl. Jeffrey Feist of the Pincher Creek RCMP.
“Their car was completely consumed by fire.
They lit their car on fire, because they thought they were going to freeze to death.”
In the morning, the two men discovered that they were within easy walking distance of a nearby house, and set off to find help.
Rising smoke from the burned-out hulk attracted the attention of a passerby, who called 911.
Feist said both men had cellular phones.
The pair were taken to hospital where they were treated and released for minor burn and frostbite and one of the men was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Feist recommends motorists carry emergency supplies in their car, and to prepare for the worst when travelling in winter conditions.
“We certainly don’t recommend lighting your vehicle on fire to stay warm,” Cpl. Feist said.
“Stay inside your vehicle and call 911 if you can.”
The case is still under investigation, and charges are pending.

Do you guys think Brocket is acceptable because its a parody or is it blatantly racists and unacceptable?

I had listened to it as a kid and thought it was funny at the time. I new some natives who listened to it back then and they thought it was funny as well. I remember them making comments to the point of "Its funny because its true." Today, my opinion is that its borderline, if not completely unacceptable.

If this was a parody tape based on stereotypes of black people living in community housing in Toronto, I suspect everyone would be up in arms about how its racist and unacceptable.

I enjoy it the same way I enjoy trailer park boys or an episode of shameless.

Ya to say it is boderline is being fairly Liberal. The "outrage" society that we are currently in would ahve a field day with this. As far as mainstream media goes it is totaly unaaceptable and even would've been 25 years ago when I first got my hands on a copy. The parody aspects and the pure comedic content however is brilliant. As a fan of (stand up)comedy there is very little that I would consider to be off limits, and I find pure observational comedy (which Brocket 99 would be considered IMO) to be the most entertaining. Living in Lethbridge and having worked in retail for 10 years the streotypes addressed are someting we've all witnessed. Yes many people would say it is offensive or rascist, and it is, but true comedy will always offend someone or some group.

I guess if you consider "Modern Family" as comedy then Brockett 99 is not for you.

I remember the rumor at the time, that one of the DJs was Rick Sadler, of AM 106 (and other) fame, but I don't think anyone is going to come out in this day and age and take responsibility for this.

The very end of the Iris Larrett interview was great...as was on location at Hunt and Hook Sports, and the "Sports Report" (consisting only of talking about the Seahawks vs. Blue Jays game, and the Pig roast after the Stamps/Esks game) on after the news.

The difference is in those two shows, it's whites making fun of whites. Here we have whites making fun of first nations people, so it's racist.

That being said, I could see natives making similar skits about themselves. From what I've seen, most have a good sense of haw haw and can laugh at themselves.
