The Preds sure are serious about a cup run. I think they need to add some scoring though. They could pick up a rental for one of their defencemen prospects, since they are one of the few teams that has those, and they looked to be blocked from the NHL on that team.

I don't think the Preds are done.

^ I don't think they are either. They still have bunch of regular season games and some playoffs games, so not done by a long shot.

Kind of reminds me when they loaded up with Peter Forsberg and promptly lost in the first round. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens again as I just can't see a team winning the cup with Filip Forseberg as their leading scorer. I just don't see the playoff heroes on offence that you need to win a cup.

I've been thinking the same. Then again 7 guys with 10+ goals is not a bad number, and they added one more in Santorelli.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Predators get some success or even winning the cup. They've always seemed to try their best to ice a competitive team and have fought hard for their points. Unlike some other teams.

Yeah and they do have a good fan base considering their lack of playoff success in a non-traditional playoff market. Playoff hockey is so different though. It's like how the Kings can go from mediocre regular season team to winning the cup as they have so many players that when they are really focused that can beat you every night. I just don't see that on the Preds. It's a lot to ask Forsberg and guys like Neal and Ribero aren't exactly playoff warriors to come up big in multiple series because that's what it will take as you can't just ride hot goaltending or else the Habs would win the cup every year.

I was trying to think of examples of an offensively thin team that made some noise in the playoff, and 2012 Coyotes came to mind. Their biggest regular season weapons were Vrbata and Whitney, and neither had what I'd call a great postseason. They still made the Western finals on the backs of guys like Vermette and Doan.
Besides, they are making the playoffs more on the backs of a great defensive group than goaltending. Some Nashville fans are slotting Franson in the 3rd pairing, that's how solid their top 4 has been.

Yeah, not so much. They are a top-ten offensive team by a comfortable margin, and the third most offensively dangerous team in the WC.
I honestly think they are fine as is. If they happen to add another offensive piece, they will be practically lethal.

Maybe we could sell them on the affordability of Curtis Glencross?
Their 2nd + Anthony Bitetto or Jack Dougherty and a 4th?

The Bruins won in 2011 with no real offensive star. Obviously, it helps to have a Kopitar or a Toews/Kane but I wouldn't write the Preds off.

Nope..we are giving up too much.
Seriously though. I like Phaneuf when he was playing for the Flames but once he's traded to the Leafs that's it for me. Besides where are you going to slot him? He will sulk if you put him on the third pairing or even the 2nd pairing. Flames will definitely not break up the Gio-Brodie pairing that's for sure. I am sure there are some D on the market that Flames can pick up on a trade and will fit right in as a strong #5 D in this team.
As far the Preds' trade is concern, I feel for Olli Jokinen. It's like he went from the penthouse to the outhouse. I also think the Leafs managed to get as much as they can for a couple of UFAs that they will lose for nothing anyways if not traded this season. The trade definitely help the Preds with their playoff run.

Krecji did play like a star. And Thomas was unbelievable.
It's true, I'm still not a fan of the Preds offense. They're going to have to have guys step up and like fantastic defense.

Again, Nashville is one of the best offensive teams in the NHL this season.
Seriously. They will be fine.

Montreal, Calgary and Pittsburgh were all interested in Franson, but couldn't match Nashville's offer.

Can't see flames getting a 2nd pairing d-man. Cost seems to be a late 1st, something the flames can not give up.
Will be interesting to see what flames go after on UFA day. No chance Nashville re-signs Franson. Would flames give Franson what he is after? Not sure that would be a good move. I'm not totally sold on Franson, and could see him dropping to 3rd pairing dman during his term

I'm sure Calgary started and ended with a second round pick, that just wont stack up against Nashville's 1st.
Despite the fact that 1st rounder is going to be late, a 2nd round pick just wouldnt cut it.

I'm personally OK with the Flames signing Franson in the off-season. As long as we don't give him a lot of term. Although, I'm sure some teams would offer him term. In terms of dollar value, we can go pretty high without it hurting our team in the short-term.

Calgary's 1st and Nashville's 1st are two different things, so no way Calgary's should have been on the table (not saying you were suggesting that)
Also, Calgary is rebuilding and should be less willing to move theirs than a team like Nashville.
So this is all good.
