"Cluster suicides" are a real phenomenon. The hockey community needs to take time to reach out to those who may need to hear from a friend

That's the scary thing. There is a reason why the media doesn't report on suicides as a matter of routine. Can't hide it when it is a public person though.

Nothing can be said that hasn't already.
On a personal level, its really sad news. This is happening too much. It needs to be addressed.

Just Youtube Steve Montador and there are tons of video's of players taking cheap shots on him. No wonder he had so many concussions. Also had a lot of fights. He was a warrior that's for sure. Sounds like he really loved the game and was grateful to be an NHL Player.

Crushing news about one of the guys who just seemed like a good guy in a profession where that can be a bit tough to find.
The toughest transition that these guys make is when they leave the sport and no longer have the support network and friendships that they had before.
Pro sports does need to do a better job of working with athletes transitioning to the ordinary world after their careers are over.
Tough to read
RIP Steve

RIP.
I'm absolutely floored.
When I first read about it I thought it had to be a typo because Steve Montador was far too young.

@CruickshankCH: May 2004 -- Montador, slapping his stick on the ice for the pass, scores OT against SJ. "You could hear him up in Sacramento," says Sutter.
RIP Steve

Just had a couple of texts from friends telling me about it. Met him a couple of times his first year or two in Saint John, was always a great guy and very involved in the community. Always enjoyed following his career.
Very sad.
