Yes, a good GM would think about it. And he would conclude that, while it is a possibility that Kane could be a better player than MacDavid, the likelihood of that is so low that he would have to be trying to get fired to even consider it.
I get what you're trying to say, that nothing is certain, but you still have to play the percentages. It is extremely likely that MacDavid will be a better NHLer than Kane. And it is very likely that Bennett will too. And in both cases, probably by a very large margin.
So what is your point?

Kane going to Buffalo would make way more sense than these Kane for horvat or Bennett deals

Dreger says the foundation is:
Myers + Stafford + Armia + Lemieux + 1st-round pick
for
Kane + Bogosian

Why are the Jets giving up Bogosian?
Jets just got a lot worse in the midst of a playoff push.

That would be a very sweet trade for the Jets.
If that deal is on the table and Jets GM did not jump at it he should be fired. Must be more to it .

That's insane. Very good deal for both sides, in my opinion.
And Myers will be paradoxically better than Bogosian in WPG. Bogo has fallen back a lot this year, and Myers will only get better where he's not the main guy and can focus on his own game.

Ridiculous overpayment by the Sabres.
That's like the Flames trading Brodie + Glencross + Baertschi + Klimchuk + our 2015 1st for E. Kane and Bogosian.
All I can say is I am glad it's not us.

No It wouldn't.
Brodie is so much better than Myers that it's difficult to articulate.
Glencross is better than Stafford.
Baertschi and Klimchuk are better prospects than Buffalo is giving up.
And our 1st (mid) is better than the 1st Buffalo will give up (either St. Louis or NYI)
The way I see it, Buffalo gave up some good pieces, but they are all support pieces. No potential aces.
Kane may be an ace for Buffalo.

In this sense "Small Market" has nothing to do with hockey. It's about the city it self. Calgary compared to New York, LA, Chicago Etc. is small market.

Agreed ... overpayment. If that's on table, Chevy is an idiot not to take it

I don't think Kane has a no-trade clause, so they can trade him to Siberia for all they care. Its just a matter of maximizing value and not trading him to a western rival. Buffalo is a good fit, they pick up a young asset that does not impact their tank strategy and could turn out to be a great player for them over the long run. If they trade Myers and/or a couple of other good players its even better insurance that they get Eichel or McDavid. Since Edmonton's Hall went down, Buffalo needs to get worse real fast.
Essentially a win/win for both teams.

I stand corrected on my expectation for what it was going to cost to get Kane. I never counted on a team going crazy in the coconut.
