We need him. Really hope the Flames invest the energy into getting him a full time spot. Bollig can't be the only physical guy.

Lance Bouma and to a lesser extent David Jones both say hi.

I like him better than Bollig so far. But small sample size.

I like him, but he is overrated by this message board. He will be interesting to have on hand for the playoffs.

Who's overrating him? Most people seem to think he'll be a 3rd or 4th liner at best.

He can really protect the puck along the boards. That, combined with his love and ability to throw thunderous checks, will make him an NHLer.
His skating speed is simply not as bad as some people claim - I wonder if they are being swayed by his style, which is less than pretty.
As for conditioning and the 3rd period, sure, there is some getting used to the NHL pace. But I think part of it too is that, right now, he is trying to make the most of every shift. After 10 wrecking ball shifts, he's spent. When he settles in and starts to pick his spots a bit, he'll be fine.

I just find when you're watching him that his energy and enthusiasm are infectious. There just seems to be more jump when hes on the ice.

I think most here are in agreement that he needs some conditioning, and hopefully a boost to his top speed. He's a bit older than your typical prospect, but I'm comfortable that there is plenty of potential for improvement. Remember during the prospect development camp last summer, he shows up after not skating once all summer since "there's no summer ice in Germany". This isn't exactly optimal training. If he commits this summer, like some of our other prospects have, to spending time with trainers and skating regularly, I'm sure he can develop am appreciable improvement for next season.

I must be crazy, but I don't see what you're all seeing. He looks like he'll never amount to much. Hopefully he proves me wrong, but right now, Bolig is miles ahead of Wolf.

He's playing well, he's got another year on his deal. He's not going anywhere for now. Nor should he.

I did think the biggest issue with him last night was his first step, got beat in the second in a chase for the puck that was about 8 feet from him, he just couldn't get any jump towards the puck. Once he gets moving though his speed is just fine, and I was pretty impressed with his crossovers and strength on his skates along the boards.
That first step issue definitely could have just been a conditioning issue, because whenever I noticed it, he was closer to the ends of his shifts and like you said, he acts like a wrecking ball out there, can't be easy to keep that energy up. Lots of that is probably still just jitters and wanting to make an impression, will be nice to see how he acts out there once he's comfortable on the team.

I'm not a huge fan either, but he's playing well so credit where credits due.
My point was that if you're hoping/expecting him to be gone soon, you're probably going to be disappointed.

If Bollig is consistently one of the weakest forwards on the ice (often the worst) and is frankly not an intimidating presence, I struggle to see him being miles ahead of anybody else unless they stick out like a sore thumb every time they step on the ice. Wolf wasn't a massive liability, and that alone means he wasn't "miles" behind what Bollig brings.

Yeah, not really. He was fairly behind the play and back checked incredibly hard to catch up with the Sharks player. The penalty was a rookie mistake of putting your arm in for too long and allowing the veteran Sharks player to hook him in and fall down. Refs fall for that a lot and he'll need to learn to pull his arm out again, or at least put his hands up indicating that he's let go of the player.
His stamina looked just fine considering how often he'll be out there in an average game. Even if he's a step or two behind the rest of the Flames, so is most of the league in terms of conditioning, so it isn't a slight to his conditioning. He's at least on par with Bollig's stamina, but probably has better speed, agility, and power along with a smart stick, better shot and offensive awareness, and more calculated aggression. He's an upgrade right now as far as I'm concerned, but it's a small sample size and I'd like to see about 5-10 games before I'm certain.
