Default QOTD: Who or what is Lance Bouma?

his line: 9g 13a 22p in games

his 10th point of the season was New Year's Eve, meaning he has 12 points in his last 15 games.

He's 8th in team scoring, battling with the likes of Colborne, Glencross and Jones, the group that many would point to as secondary scoring.

Who is this guy?

I think the sample size is too small... But I've really liked what I've seen from him, he doesn't look like that player we kept penciling as a 4th liner. I think he'll be a 3rd/4th liner, depending on the chemistry. He and Backlund have been a great duo and should stick as the 3rd line when we are contending.

I still think he is a 4th liner/ok guy, just one of the better ones in the league. If we want to build a winner I would still pencil him in on the 4th line of that team

He's a bottom 6 guy that's getting much more ice time this season than he will in the coming years leading to a career season. Very effective role player much like a Brandon Prust.

International man of mystery!

He's been exactly what he needs to be and what we need him to be, a little bit of everything.

He will be an excellent 4th line guy on a cup contender. This kind of player lower on the depth chart makes good teams great.

A terrific 4th liner or possibly 3rd liner even if he does occasionally seem to be chanelling Gary Roberts.

He a hard-working, gritty, character guy.

He has border-line NHL talent, but his willingness to sacrifice the body, block shots, fight, block shots, play 4th line minutes without complaint, and block more shots, has given him a full-time gig in Calgary.

He is currently on a hot streak, but he's never been a scorer in the NHL, or the AHL, or even in juniors, so i dont think theres much grounds for thinking its anything more than a hot streak. By eye, there has been no dramatic transformation in his game, and I think his most stand-out abilities are still a) running into people and b) getting hit by pucks.

A leopard rarely changes its spots at 25 years old.

He's just finding more success than usual while wearing his old spots. I'm quite happy about that, but even at his baseline he's carved out a useful niche on the Flames moving forward.

He reminds me of Chris Clark, you know the player we used to joke about as always being able to score 10 goals per season, not more and not less. Sutter traded him for peanuts to Washington and he became their captain and scored 30 goals one season. Of course he was playing with Ovechkin but still.

Right now I'd say he's a top 9 but he could stagnate or progress. He's certainly been durable but how long can he last?

One thing that makes him valuable is that he can play all three forward positions.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Lance Bouma could be a 20 goal-scorer down the road. He's really showed some scoring touch this season and he is still very much progressing.

I think he's a bottom 6 guy, but a very important one at that. Like a Stephane Yelle, he is a guy who gives the top-talent guys no excuse but to work their asses off because he is doing just that all the time. And if you're not, Bouma will be in your spot.

He's on an incredible hot streak. I have to admit I never even imagined his pre hot streak numbers coming into this season. I thought he was more of a 5-7 goal guy at best. This season has proven me wrong. I still don't think he should be regular on the 3rd line though, unless he proves he can become a consistent 35 point player. I like having him and Stajan on the 4th line, with the option of moving up to the top 9 when injuries hit or he gets hot. Very nice player to have.

solid 4th liner, who can jump up to 3rd line duty if needed. He plays a "heavy" game, as well as a decent defensive game with no fear when it comes to shot blocking.

Offensively, he can chip in though it shouldn't be expected, but rather is simply "gravy" for everything else he brings.

Well, he's obviously of Mennonite heritage - so I'd have to say he's probably my 3rd cousin or something.
