...... uh yah, hence why i said a poor mans Bobby Ryan with even lower value due to the baggage that comes with Kane.

We might be looking at a return like Mike Ribeiro got for Montreal. Similar player and similar situation.

I'd be inclined to do it, in case he's a Seguin 2.0. If he's not... well, we unload that contract and take our lumps.
Ugg... would be loathe to give up a 1st round pick in this year's draft especially to acquire someone that plays a position that is an organizational strength. And a wasted 1st round pick would be a big lump to swallow if Kane went bad for the Flames.

Stop trying to bait me!....

One gets injured, gets a nose cold, has a sore digit, and takes considerable time off immediately to remedy the situation.

The other plays through significant injuries - in this case he seems to have gotten upset with the respect shown to him by his teammates and finally mailed in the season. I'm not condoning his final actions, but please don't put these two players into comparison.

One is an elite talent in need of an attitude / work ethic to match his skill, the other is a hardworking player that needs a lot of support, good bounces to stay in this league because of his talent.

This is the offer I would be okay with.

Raymond, Baertschi, and a 2nd

Jets fans will argue that is not near enough. Raymond is overpaid, Sven is a bust and a 2nd is not worth it for a 24 year old, power forward, fast forward who has already scored 30 in a season

Flames can counter that we are giving up a 25 goal scorer, speedy top 6 forward, top prospect that has shown flashes of being a top 6 scorer, and a high draft pick for a winger with attitude issues, paid over $5M and only scored more than 20 goals once in 6 years and never cracked 60 points

All in all I think it is a fair trade. Kane gives the Flames size, speed and toughness. You hope he matures being in this locker room and reaches his huge potential. Winnipeg gets a player that helps now, a prospect/player that still has high potential and could benefit from a change of scenery and a mid 2nd round pick in a deep draft. (Hopefully the Flames can recoup that pick in a separate deal)

The way I would want to approach a deal for any player is to assess to what level I think they can play at on a consistent basis and then surrender a similar level prospect in return, with something else to pay for development costs. Even if you discount his personal problems, Kane is a 2nd line player. I don't see him being anything more than that, so I'd only be willing to give up a player with similar potential. That rules out Bennett and Poirier. I'd probably dangle Baertschi, and a low pick for development cost, but that would be it. Too much baggage.

They wouldn't even look at this. No one outside of fish creek knows who Sven is, Raymond isn't desirable and a 2nd rounder isn't even a sure thing.

maybe this has been covered and I'm just not seeing it - and if it has been I'm sorry for missing it - but has any one provided any reason or explanation, even speculative, for Kane's difficult behaviour?

Is he just arrogant or perhaps anti-social? Maybe he hates Winnipeg and is trying to alienate himself out of there? Maybe he has a clash with the team leadership or coach and is trying to assert himself?

I ask because it's important to how the Flames (or rather their fans) consider getting him. My sense of it, which is worth less than nothing, is he wants to be a big city, flashy athlete. If that is the case, Calgary ain't gonna work. He needs to be in LA or NYC and the problems he had in Winnipeg will be a problem here.

Kane has a lot of character issues is getting paid $5.25M and hasn't put up that impressive numbers.

I will be surprised if the Jets get a roster player, top prospect, and a 1st. Kesler didn't return quite that much and he is far more proven. Seguin didn't get a return that big and henis younger and better. Chevy thinks he is trading a player similar to Richards and Carter who had superior numbers.

Kane might get a first or he might get a decent prospect but he won't get both

Lol, enjoy Kane Chevy.

The best he's getting for Kane is spare parts. He can hope for a GM to overpay on a potential issue, but I think most GMs are only willing to give up what they'd be ok with losing for free. Which they might, when they put Kane on waivers if he doesn't react positively to the new team.

For the record: I really want Kane.

LOL well I guess it never hurts to shoot for the moon...

personally I think that they are better off by trading him for almost anything at this point = addition by subtraction...

Trading for Kane would be a risky move for any GM. If Kane pans out, he is the kind of player that can impose his will on a game. Physical, exceptional skater, and can (or could?) score at a 1st line clip.

Be the GM that trades and gets the guy mentioned above, and your name will be praised and your future more secure for a couple more years. Might even parlay that into an extension for yourself.

However, be the GM that trades a couple of valuable pieces, and get the selfish, entitled cancer that Kane is starting to be vilified for, and have him continue to under-perform and be a distraction for the team, and you can kiss your job goodbye in short order.

GMs are hesitant to make a deal bringing Kane in. Kane still has pretty good value out there (though I would have to assume it has dropped quite a lot). Have a year + of being the current Kane, and his value will take a huge plunge.

As for my personal take on him - I don't think you risk adding that distraction to a team. You don't risk it for a guy who seems to never play a full season, who hit 30 goals early on in his career and hasn't hit 20 since (or before). You pay a guy 6 million a year to score at a higher rate than he has, regardless of intangibles (and he is gritty). Does he have negative value? I don't think so. I do think that probably the biggest reason as to why he doesn't have negative value is that most GMs think "a change of scenery" might get this kid back on track.

I think there are only a handful of teams out there that can properly bring a guy like him into a locker room and have a shot at straightening him out. Teams like Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh, Anaheim. Teams with exceptional players who are strong leaders. Teams where he wouldn't be 'the guy', and 'the guy' (or guys) on the team are also very respected leaders, and coaches who won't hesitate to discipline him when necessary regardless of the possible consequences. I just don't see what would be so different in Calgary for Evander Kane, and I would hate to see the Flames giving up high-end assets on a 'hope' that he changes. If it doesn't pan out, his valuation will more than certainly see a very steep decline.

I bet he turns it around in Winnipeg. No team is going to want him and having his entire team hate him might flip a switch in his head and convince he's at fault. I'm sure a sincere apology followed by months of shutting up would help.

Well, Bob sure knows hoe to get folks undergarments in a twist. If thats what he has heard the Jets are seeking for Kane, then all the power to them, but Treliving isn't giving that kind of price up. Not by a mile.

I'm guaranteeing myself that when they do trade Kane, it won't be on that level of return. I suspect much less in fact.

He never said that is what the Jets were asking for and skyway stated the flames wouldn't do it. He was trying to give perspective on the type of return Chevy would be looking for
