Yes you can as long as you provide full disclosure. I believe that you cant waive or re-assign a player on IR.

I wouldn't offer #### for Kane.
Let Winnipeg pry the equivalent of Bennett out of some other poor sucker team.

I would do a package with Backlund + Sven as the main centre pieces.
Kane is going to be a stud of a hockey player.

This spitballing is one reason I don't really care for Mackenzie. He first makes up an interest by Calgary, then makes up the ask by Winnipeg, and closes by saying Calgary wouldn't be interested at that price. What a waste of time.

He's simply trying to provide perspective for the average fan, not propose a trade

I'm curious why everyone seems to think so. Even lots of hockey people.
He's big, and has shown he can score, but he's basically 24 now and hasn't shown he can change a game. He didn't make anyone else better either. I'm not so high on him

Because Dagger is trying a little harder than "my crap for their gold", which permeates the vast majority of message board trade proposals.
And to be honest, I doubt that package would be good enough for Winnipeg.

Maybe if Kane had no attitude issues this could be a starting point. But I am not going to be offering a guy like Backlund who loves to play for calgary and has an amazing attitude plus a top prospect for a guy like Kane who could be toxic in the dressing room and clash with all the character players we have acquired and drafted. Kanes a great player but his attitude rightfully so tarnishes his value and I wouldn't pay too much of our future for him.

I'm blown away so many people still think Kane is going to be a superstar player. If he hasn't figured it out by 25 I'm not so sure he will before his career is over.

Off topic, but didn't the Oilers trade an injured player to the Kings few years ago and hid the fact that said player needed surgery? And IIRC, Kings were pi**ed at them.

only way I move Backlund is if Burmistrov's rights are involved.
At this stage, Kane = Backlund. Backlund is a hell of a 2 way hockey player. Burmistrov has some good potential, if he's willing to come back to the NHL.

Trading Bennett for Kane would be totally against the Treliving's philosophy mentioned in "Flames unwilling to risk future for playoff push" thread:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=143904
not a chance
edit: forgot about Kane's surgery but still not a chance in my opinion

No, no, no. Backlund is developing well. Kane has shown that he had one good scoring season four years ago but he has a major attitude problem.

You are correct.
However, as I recall the Oilers have done that to the Kings not once but twice!
Although I believe that both of those players got the hell out of Edmonton and got Cup rings so its like going to heaven and then somehow winning some form of heavenly lottery.

I realize this, but it's not a real perspective, since his premise is flawed.

Good point made on twitter.
If Pegula doesn't mind having Incognito on his Bills, he won't mind Kane on his Sabres.

For all we know, Kane could be the kind of player that Treliving really wants or he could be the kind of player that Burke really wants and maybe they really are interested. Maybe they're not but unless you work with the Calgary Flames or are very close to someone who makes these decisions, you can't say that the Flames have no interest or won't try to get him.
McKenzie is doing what journalists do, creating a buzz around the story and giving us something to talk about. He didn't say offers were made or anything is more than just speculation on his part.
Personally, I think Kane has a chance to turn into a really good hockey player and I'd love to see him on the Flames but not at the price of one of Johnny, Bennett, Monahan or our first this year, but that's just me.

That's not really what real journalists do. Especially if there is no story to create a buzz about. Now, if he heard the Flames were interested and was giving an opinion about the price, maybe. But he doesn't say that.

Ok, I agreed with all the way up until this point.
This Calgary Flames team is what it is and are where they are because they're a team and each and every single one of them are pulling in the same direction together and when one guy cant pull the rest pull harder until he can.
Its a thing of goddamned beauty.
What is the incentive to add someone that has conclusively proven he is unwilling to pull?
Because he has talent? Talent is insufficient. There is nothing more common in this world than unsuccessful men with talent.

Great post Locke, but that end quote is Calvin Coolidge.
Treliving and Burke have always said they want players that play for the crest on the front not the name on the back. Kane is playing for the name on the back.
