Baby Flames better get their stuff together.
All of a sudden they are only 2 points into a playoff spot.

Question for all you AHL fans: I just saw big Erns fight tonight, and he was wearing a visor, are visors mandatory in the AHL?

Any update on Ferland? I haven't seen a game for a while and he seems to have cooled off pretty significantly. He appeared to be right on the verge of sticking with the big team, but every game thread I check out he seems to be very quiet.

Yes they are. The AHL does not have any grandfather rule to exempt any players, it's 100% mandatory for all.

He's not been an active part of the offense for a few games. I believe he has 1 point in the last 12 games. Not really noticeable on the ice some nights, not creating plays and not really throwing the body around either. I actually just had to go back and look to see what games he played in because I honestly can't remember anything he's stood out with for quite awhile. Huska's been putting him with different linemates and that doesn't seem to be getting him going either. Not really sure what's going on there.
At this point, I can't see him even being on the radar for a callup. His play certainly hasn't warranted it.

Yes and IMO, since the new year, this teams looks to be in development mode. Last night was a good indication. A much needed 2 point game and with Potter gone, they sit two Key vets in favor of the younger players. If this continues, it is going to be hard to make the playoffs. I feel the playoffs is where the younger players would really benefit from watching and playing a few games here and there. .

The only time I've noticed Ferland in the last handful of games is post-whistle scrums. That's about it. Pretty disappointed to see Ferland and Reinhart being held off the score sheet so much. Those were two guys that I honestly thought would be tearing it up this season given their on-ice successes last year.

Especially after Ferland looked really good in his callup..
I wonder if after that his mind hasn't been in it as much..

Good news for Addy as we were down to 12 forward bodies last night. Probably good news for Poirier as well as he seems a bit lost when he doesn't have Baertschi in the lineup with him. Which I will again preface with it's only his first year so I do understand it, but he's been a different player with the loss of Baertschi. Almost a loss of speed and offense and going to a more physical style. He also failed to score a point in the games Baertschi was gone too.
Same deal with Reinhart, with Granlund back he had a 3 game point streak. Since he's been gone, same issues as before. Having Granlund down for a bit maybe will start sparking his offense again. Or at least that's the hope I'm going to hold on to.

Setoguchi is on the ice for morning skate. Arnold and Thiessen (whose wife was in labor yesterday) are not.

Baertschi and Granlund are not on the ice but I believe they will be available tonight for the game.

Looks like Gillies, Tousignant and Ramage will be tonight's scratches. That means Granlund, Baertschi expected to play.

per the AHL transactions page Kulak has been recalled from Colorado.
http://theahl.com/stats/transactions.php
Likely means Culkin is expected to be out for awhile after going to the ER after last night's game. Culkin reportedly needed surgery after being cut by a skate.

I'm hoping to get an update on exact injury, but the gut feeling is he probably cut a tendon. That's usually something they rush you to surgery for when you've cut your hand. Deep cuts that do not damage any tendons/ligaments usually get froze and stitched
The other possibility is he lost part of a finger.
I tired going back to see what happened but all I can see is him just dropping his stick and gloves and running to the room. I can't figure out where the injury originated.

Ryan Culkin can wiggle his fingers but a big, bulky cast immobilizes his thumb.
The Adirondack Flames defenseman was cut with a skate early in the second period on Friday night. He immediately threw down his gloves and stick and made a bee-line to the dressing room (it happened just in front of the door), leaving the assistant equipment manager to call for the trainer.
Culkin tore a tendon, possibly multiple tendons in his left wrist. He could see them engaging as he moved his hand.
Teammates got off the ice from morning skate on Saturday and checked in with him, each getting the gory details. Trevor Gillies compared war stories with Culkin, showing him the scar from a similar injury. He watched Culkin move his fingers and said "oh you'll get that back" (meaning full range of motion).
The 21-year-old was taken to the emergency room during the game Friday night. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair the damage and will be out for an extended time.

This is potentially what could have happened to Gaudreau a couple of games ago.
Also per the article, Kulak will join the team tonight but won't actually get on the ice until practice on Monday.

That sucks for Culkin. Hopefully, it won't have any lasting impact on his game (or life).
It's good to see Kulak get the chance to play in the AHL. It sounds like he's been doing well in Colorado, so he should slide into the lineup without a hitch.

As promised, Thiessen is back at practice today. Setoguchi skated the first part again. McGrattan missing. Arnold still not practicing.
