Sorry I was unaware of the rules. Bergeron, Iginla, Keith, Datsyuk, Marleau.

Let us also not forget that the NHL's leadership award is named after Messier, who (allegedly) beat up on some of his teammates who he didn't think were playing hard enough.

Throwing clothes in the shower?

Big f-ing deal.

I coach high level basketball. This type of stuff happens all the time when a player thinks he is above the team, coach, etc... As a coach this more often than not brings a team together. Do I recommend players throw stuff in showers? Hold close door meetings? No, but some of the best teams I've coached are teams where players united in times like this.

They could be - this sounds like very common behavior in the NHL. If they don't actually throw clothes in the shower over team transgressions, they almost certainly tolerate teammates doing it.

If you have a problem with the NHL's conformist jock culture then fair enough. But don't kid yourself that it's confined to a few players or teams.

I don't think we know this is bullying. He is trying to change a behaviour. And there is a difference.

If Kane changed his behaviour and these type of things stopped it isn't bullying. If after he changed this behaviour they found something else to pick on him for then it is bullying.

Teams have certain rules
Players are expected to follow these rules
Players are disciplined for not following them
Behaviour is changed

Now you can argue if it's a good form of discipline or not but until it's continuous and without reason it's not bullying.

The only problem I have with it is when it's detrimental to the team. Here it very much is so. It shouldn't have come to this. Yes that is Kanes fault but to say it is only his fault I don't agree with. Leadership failed here. Obviously this was the final straw of a number of things. This didnt come out of nowhere. Now you lost one of your best players when your trying to make a playoff push and your likely seeing a discount return in trade. So I don't really care how common or not this type of thing is because I don't think a strong leadership group would ever let it get to this. After playing with a guy for 5+ years you should know how to deal with him and if he truly is that difficult to deal with he should have been traded long ago. I think Byfuglien knew exactly what he was doing and knew how Kane would react and thats why I think he messed up. If you think this is how all teams deal with problems and the true intent was that this would set Kane straight then that's your opinion. At the end of the day though we really don't know all the specifics so it's a lot of speculation.

Saying leadership failed here is premature at best.

There is absolutely no chance that this is some sort of one-time event. It has been growing for a long time. Management has been working with him. Players have tried to straighten him out.

Sometimes people don't get better, despite the help. That's not a failure of the help. You are what you do, and Kane has pushed his teammates to the edge.

No one knows at this point how it will shake out. In the long run, it may turn out to be the best thing to happen to the Jets. Would that be a failure of leadership?

I didn't realize a Winnipeg Jet posted here but thanks for your insider info. Even if this is true then Byfuglien did what he did to get under Kanes skin and piss him off. Well it worked and now you likely screwed over your team because of it. Good leadership.

It's too early to know what the net results will be, but addition by subtraction isn't out of the question.

Sure. Could be a possibility could not be. Almost certainly you will not be getting fair value in trade now though. You could have just acted like a professional and let management handle him if he was really that big of an issue. Instead you egged him on and created this whole mess.

Never said that. Just think other people are at fault as well. Poorly handled situation from players to coaches to management.

This is entirely and 100% on Kane....to suggest other wise is goofy.

He is the one who has had the transgressions, he is the one who was late and wore inappropriate clothing and from all reports he is the one who quit on his teammates not only in Vancouver, but now again for the remainder of the season.

He is as far from being a professional as he could be....the only thing he hasn't done is gone public whining about how he was treated and demanding a trade.

Hopefully he grabs a clue and grows up. He has all the tools to be a dominating player in the league but his toolbox seems woefully inadequate.

Any team acquiring him, regardless of cost, is playing with fire in regards to their locker room.

What Tranny said. As far as professional as he could be.

His agent is in damage control.

How long before we see more photos of him in Vegas "recovering" from his injury?

I don't think we know the whole story but can look at Kane's past actions and quotes from teammates and realize that this is definitely not the first time he has put himself above the team. We also don't know how many incidents happened this year prior to this one and how they were handled internally by the players, coaches and management. This could have easily been a last straw situation or an internal blow up that we just have no details on besides the track suit and probably never will. To pass it off as Buff being a bully or as management handling it poorly seems odd given the lack of detail.
