People get way too wrapped in guys being "cancers" when in reality like everywhere else in society there are personalities and in some situations they just don't mesh.
Kane has played for two clubs (one franchise). Atlanta and Winnipeg, which are pretty much night and day, as True North rid itself of all management and staff of the Thrashers organization. His problems with some of the core players the Jets brought over from Atlanta, especially Byfuglien, are becoming quite clear. Kane has been disciplined 3 times, by being benched for off-ice issues. Once by Noel, and twice by Maurice.

I've heard from several people in the know, that he had problems with the Vancouver Giants in the WHL. As for the Jets, numerous sources have now claimed that True North spent more time working with Kane on his off-ice issues, than all other Winnipeg Jet players combined. Even flying his parents in, and putting them up in 5-star hotels to help Kane out.

It's now clear this strategy backfired, and the Jets should not have babied Kane. I just can't get past Kane no-showing a big game, against a potential playoff rival. Now he has taken his ball, and gone home.

There is a press conference scheduled through his agent at 4:15. I was hoping that Kane would address the issue personally, and apologize for his mistakes, but everything about him leads me to believe he will throw the Winnipeg Jets organization under the bus, and demand a trade as soon as possible.

i dont' think so.

4-6 month recovery will add to the question marks about his play.

Having Evander Kane for a playoff run I think sparks a bigger return.

He has played for 1 team. Same core, same team.

As for taking his ball and going home, the writing is on the wall. If I was him I would do the same thing. You are obviously not wanted in the dressing room anymore so he isn't going to risk playing injured for his team and will get his surgery.

I dont like Kane much, but I'm with him on this. The team doesn't need to throw stuff in the shower like a bunch of kids to make a point, there could have been a quiet-but-stern word, just like adults are supposed to do.

If I turned up late for work and somebody threw my jacket in the shower, i'd lobby to have them fired...it's childish and not a way to address these issues.

Couple this with the fact he is sacrificing to help the team, I'm sure this shoulder injury is real and that he's in pain...but is playing through to help the team..and the team doesnt seem very appreciative of this.

At the end of the day, Kane wont play again this year, the jets won't make the playoffs again (partially as a resullt of Kane's absence and this distraction). Kane will likley sign for a good team in the offseason and have success, and the jets will have a big hole in their line-up that they will have trouble filling.

The Jets lose. Simple.

Yep, last game played as a Jet and has likely reduced his trade value even more so.

Watch the Jets make the play-offs and win it all. Does Kane get his name on the cup?

Maybe he didn't want to play the game because of his injury in the first place which is why he didn't show up dressed and now it is assumed that it was all petty crap over his clothes being thrown in the shower and the shoulder isn't that bad.

And given that he's been playing through injuries and is a fierce competitor on the ice and is not exactly a rookie anymore, he's insulted. It doesn't look good for sure but I don't think you can just assume this move is just to stick it to the Jets.

Problem is that every team knows Winnipeg has to trade him so they wont even offer anything close to his value. Crappy situation for the franchise.
It's not a crappy situation as I can only assume that Cheveldae has known for years this was possible by forcing square pegs in round holes. The franchise brought this on themselves end of story as we have been discussing this topic for years now. Years.

It will likely take a desperate team to trade for him. Columbus or Edmonton seem like ideal destinations in that regard. Maybe Carolina? Semin for Kane. Haha.

You don't believe that happened in the beginning?

It sounds like the recent event was a culmination stemming way back to the Atlanta days.

Dont think so. You need 41 games in the Reg season or 1 in the SCF. He only has 37 games this year.

I know the team can ask the league for an exception in some cases (Marc Savard), but would they @ this point?

If I'm the Jets I'm trading this kid's ass right now for whatever I can get.

Let the acquiring team's doctors and trainers worry about his surgery and rehab. I'd want this guy as far away as possible, good riddance to bad rubbish and dont let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

The Vancouver Giants, Thrashers/Jets over six years, and Dynamo Minsk are the same team with the same core? Cool!

I wonder if the Avs would be a fit for Kane? Maybe O'Reilly for Kane and have him live with Iggy to see how a true family man acts off the ice.

Dressing room culture will dictate that Evander Kane's time is up in Winnipeg

Coming back around to Winnipeg: The whole “get your clothes soaked when you break dress code” thing wasn’t Dustin Byfuglien going all Richie Incognito and setting a never-before seen precedent. I’ve seen guys whose clothes were transferred from the shower to the freezer for the same infraction.

What normally happens is, the guy who broke the rule knows he broke the rule, he sticks his clothes in the industrial-strength dryer that’s in every pro arena, then stretches, jokes and drinks Gatorade for the extra 15 minutes he’s stuck at the rink.

Sounds like his teammates have just had enough. Looks bad on management that the players are forcing their hand in such a public way.

With his surgery keeping him out for so long he may start the season with Winnipeg to prove his recovery unless Winnipeg wants his trade return to be even less than what they could have received for an injury free Kane in the off season. Whatever the case may be, Winnipeg needs to get rid of him, everybody knows it, and his injury just further dampens their efforts to get a good return for him.

The teammates or at least the leaders should have been in managements ear to get Kane out of there long ago then.

Big Buff sure showed Kane. Buff and the Jets are so much better off now than getting a solid return or having Kane's 20 min ice time.

That's a very informative post. Frames the whole picture nicely, along with the shoulder surgery I think we can reach some conclusions now.

- Kane is immature
- The team is rejecting him
- Management is incompetent (this did not just spring up)

I'm glad this is the Jets problem. Along with LA and Vancouver issues, maybe Flames will finally catch a break.
