Your comment about being a bully is also laughable and shows that either you've literally never played a team sport in your life, or if you did you were the one picked on for doing dumb crap and now you're siding with Playboy Kane.
Numerous hockey people have come out and said that what Buff did was how players deal with problems in the lockerroom to set people straight. Kane could have manned up and owned it, instead he threw his hands up in the air and bailed on his team. My team.
F*** him. Go play in Florida, LA, or, better yet... get traded to the Islanders and hang with Jay Z for all I give a rats ass.
|
Honestly your team is much better with Kane than without him. If I was a Jets fan I would be upset at management and team leadership that it came to this instead of working to either trade him for assets or get him more in with the team.
Not to mention the guy has been playing through various injuries all year so its not like he doesn't care.

Kanes contributions are an expensive bottom pairing high possession player. You can get that a lot cheaper and with a lot fewer locker room problems than Evander.

He is also a guy playing injured that has the skill to score 30 goals. Those come cheap eh?
Regardless of your points this was handled terribly by Jets management and team leadership and they will now pay the price when he is traded for pennies on the dollar and goes on to score lots of goals elsewhere.

they will still get a good return for him. There are likely plenty of NHL GMs foaming at the mouth to get a chance to fix this kid. They might not get a 30+ goal scorer in return who is ready now, but I am sure they will get a prospect of top draft picks for this guy. Even with his issues off the ice, I am sure they would rather hold on to him and have him play then give him away for nothing.

Kane averages 25g and 50p over 82 games so far and will be 24 before the puck drops next season (his 7th NHL season). Outside of his 30 goal season he has never hit 20g or 45p in any other season.
Draft class or not he is nowhere near "elite". He's pretty good and relatively young, but let's not get crazy with the "elite" talk.

At this point, I would put more money on Yakupov getting his stuff together and being a productive player than I would on Kane being anything more than a team cancer. His production is irrelevant if he is destroying team chemistry.

I understand why people don't want Phaneuf now...but the "Phaneuf era" with the Flames? You mean the era where the Flames always made the playoffs and were in contention to win the division and were picked as a dark horse to make the finals?
Phaneuf may have had some issues with other guys in the Flames locker room but he was never replaced, certainly not by Bouwmeester, and the Flames have not been to the playoffs since.
The Phaneuf trade is a very good example of why you don't let things get to this point because when you make a trade in circumstances like that, you are almost certain to get the worst of it.

Hard to call him a cancer when there is only 1 dressing room he has ever been in. It may just be a case he doesn't see eye to eye with the Jets leadership group. There is just as likely a chance he would flourish in another situation with another team as it is he would be a cancer there.
People get way too wrapped in guys being "cancers" when in reality like everywhere else in society there are personalities and in some situations they just don't mesh.

I agree with you Weitz.
Just look at Tyler Seguin... He's flourishing now. Getting traded is also a wake-up call to a player. It basically says "you're nothing to us and we don't want you here any more"
A change of scenery to the right team with the right group might just be enough to get him to turn himself around

The only problem with what you are saying is that Kane's own actions outside of the dressing room make him look like the wrong guy, particularly in his publicly seen and posted attitude...IMO anyway.

Let's ignore the off-ice stuff for the moment.
On the ice - he just isn't as good as people thought he would be.
He hasn't scored 30 since 2011-2012. In fact he hasn't scored 20. Injuries are a factor but that lack of durability should be a real concern.
He doesn't make his team-mates better on the ice.
So how much of a price do you want to pay for a guy like that?

In terms of Kane's value I think much is being made of his potential.
I get that hes young and has talent, but the kid has played 6 seasons in the NHL and has yet to play a full season.
When people talk about his numbers they're always prorated and it comes as no surprise that his best season was also the one in which he played the most games:
74 GP 57Pts
Okay, so hes likely a 60-65 point a year guy if he could stay healthy.
But hes 23 now, do people think that someone who has been shelved for considerable stretches of time for 6 straight years is going to be less injury prone as time goes on? Hes going to get hurt less as he gets older?
Thats not usually how these things go. Unfortunately I'd have to label Evander Kane as overrated. I dont believe hes worth his $6M and I dont believe he ever will be. Add attitude problems on top of that.

I'm not going to wade in on the whole soap opera situation, but I will say that i think there are a lot of people here seriously underrating Kane's ability to play hockey.
The kid is good. That's why the Jets/Thrashers were willing to risk keeping him around.

If you can get him for cheap, sure I guess.
I do agree that getting traded and being a new team could possibly change Kane, but I think he's on a different level than Seguin. He looks a lot more immature, Seguin at least knocked out of his immaturity at a young age. Kane is freakin' 23 and still acting like a POS.

I would argue that Cheveldayoff doesn't even know trading with other teams exists.

Evander Kane will undergo left shoulder surgery shortly and normal recovery time is 4-6 months #NHLJets
Well with that news no one will trade for Kane until the offseason.

Kane has so much talent and physical abilities he is a franchise player once he grows up and gets his head straight. you need to risk to get these type of players if the opportunity is there, especially for cheap. I remember the same kind of bashing on this board when Seguin was traded, all these posters saying ohhhhh he's a cancer, Dallas is going to regret it. Now look how it turned out...could be the same with Kane.

Theres no argument that hes good, the argument is about whether hes 'good enough.'
He has to be good enough to merit his contract, his ice time and tolerance of his attitude and off-ice shenanigans.
To which my answer is no. He is not good enough to overshadow all of those things.
