Im guessing its to fill in gaps in order to:
-confirm they've got the right guy charged and the only guy
-eliminate any holes that the defence could argue lead to reasonable doubt
The amber alert was first issued for only the grandfather and the child. Its possible that evidence suggested that the grandmother couldn't have survived an attack that occurred at the house. No bodies have been found yet. We don't know whose blood was found at the house. What if its only the grandmothers? Maybe the other two were killed elsewhere or in a more tidy manner that didn't leave evidence?
Or, defence counsel could argue that the grandfather was responsible for the grandmothers death and he also abducted the child and then fled to Mexico. Maybe the grandfather wasn't supposed to flee but something went wrong, maybe the currently accused was involved in some manner or not, maybe an insurance was a payout motive, maybe the kid was supposed to be an alibi but saw something he wasn't supposed to.
I wonder if there is physical evidence that strongly suggests that all three were attacked and couldn't have survived their attacks (such as amount of blood lost, brain matter, etc). If theres evidence only one person was attacked, I could see that opening up a lot of holes in the case.
I really want to see that the police and crown get the right suspect and get a conviction against them.

I read that a family member commented that they were selling their household items because they were moving to Mexico. Then the report was, Mr. Likeness had a brother with a place there. Then the report was, they were moving to Edmonton for 6 months and then going to Mexico.
We can't know why the police are going there to investigate, because they're not telling us. Do the alleged moving plans factor into the motivation to kill them at that time, or is this just a coincidence?
This is conjecture, but they could be going there to interview people to find out if their arrival in Mexico was expected, and if so, when. It could fill a few holes, or verify or refute other evidence.

Great evening for the family.
Nathan's brother had a hat trick and a Gordie Howe hat trick!
I had to look up who the other young fellow playing was, Jeremy Luu. Quite sobering when I found out who that was. Heck of a player.

Was at the game with my kids, as my daughter was singing in the choir. Great event, very emotional pre game tribute.
I didn't know who Jeremy Luu was either until I googled him. He was a good lil player.

Does anyone know why there was no mention of the grandparents in this charity game? I ask this in a non-speculative manner and don't want to derail the meaning of the event, but I'm just wondering if there was an actual reason?

Ya I'm pretty sure I know what he means, but I did specifically say I didn't want to speculate. Just wanted to see if there was an actual reason.

So he is hinting the grandparents had a part in this?
Based on?

Are you asking us what we're basing our speculation that he's speculating, or what he's basing his speculation on?

Because the game was in support of children's charities? Not grandparent charities.

Sorry I wasn't clear.
I am asking is he speculating that the GP's were involved, and if that is correct what is he basing that speculation on.

Hinting at what?
This was a Child's Charity game used to raise funds. The focus of the special night should be on the child.

Please accept my apology.
I clearly missunderstood your post. I took your post the wrong way.
I am not sure why you didn't just say that it was a game for children's charity, in stead of the cryptic "You know Why".
Sorry about that.

Pretty cool! Was this that big of news that it spread down to the States? Or I wonder if it was someone in the O&G industry that travels to/from Calgary fairly often.
Even sort of odd that it is anonymous but they know the donor is American. I guess the funds were in U.S. currency?

No Tiger, no Lanny.
Peplinski, Patterson, Murzyn, Fleury, Warrener, Tony Stiles, Krahn, Macoun, Skorendenski (with the awesome old time hockey mask) Dwayne Hay, and a bunch of others. Sylvain Turgeon, Polonich, can't remember them all.
Tristan was spiderman, Juliet was Joan of Arc. I went as a long suffering Flames fan in my beautiful Denis Gauthier jersey.
edit: Sheldon Kennedy got a nice ovation. Gelinas of course, how could forget.
