Colorado needs quite a bit better of a record than 17-14-0 to get in..

Colorado has 55 points in 51 games Calgary leads the season series 1-0. If the Flames win the season series, the Avs will need 34 points to pass the Flames or 17-14-0, if the Flames lose the season series the Avs will require 33 points to pass the Flames or 16-14-1

I don't understand these calculations...
(Edit: How does only winning one more game than us to finish out the season make up for the six point lead we have on them now?)

No need to mention season series either. Colorado is catching nobody in the ROW column. So if the Flames get to 94 pts. Colorado needs 95 to beat us (19-10-2 in their last 31 games)

Isn't the tie breaker ROW (Regulation/Overtime win)?

Yes, the first tiebreaker is ROW, then season series.
Here's how the ROW stand:
29 - Nashville
27 - St Louis,
26 - Anaheim, Calgary, Vancouver
25 - Chicago, San Jose
22 - Minnesota, Winnipeg
21 - Dallas
20 - LA
15 - Colorado

Awesome post! With every game feeling like it's such a huge game, it'll be great to remind myself that when we eventually lose a game or two, we still have a great shot at making the playoffs!
When I'm upset about a loss, I'll remind myself of this post. lol

Good work on the numbers, guys! Thanks.
Although it is encouraging to see that the Flames are in a good position and their destiny is in their hands, and, most importantly, they are playing good hockey, it is going to be close til the end.
They need to keep their foot on the gas.

Sam Bennett and Sean Monahan are great consolation prizes but man is it good to be playing games that mean something.

It's crazy how much 1 or 2 points means at the end of the season. One blown lead, or even a shootout, can determine playoffs or no.
Just remembered a few years back when the rangers and someone else were in a shootout last game of the season with a playoff berth on the line. I can't remember the details all I remember is Oli Jokinen shot, and I think he scored on his little backhand 5-hole move. Haha Jokinen what a character

People, I would lay off Cap't Crunch a little bit. Keep in mind that the Canadian Government trained this man to "End Conflicts". Just some friendly advice.

Teams below us will up their game and winning percentage.
I do think the point required will be lower this season though, seeing the gap that currently exists between 8th and 9th, with Vancouver having at least a game in hand on everyone below them. I'd say 93 gets you in. But we should aim for the 96+ that we're on pace for. Claiming the number 2 spot for home ice vs the Sharks would definitely be ideal.

Not neccesarily true. The only team below the cutoff in the West that has really upped their game lately is Minnesota, and that is primarily driven by great goaltending. The rest of the pack are still stumbling with a shortage of time left and a big mountain to climb.

Yeah, I agree. Right now it looks like the Wild are the biggest threat to make the playoffs of the teams chasing. Their Oiler castoff goalie has made a big difference for them.
I think the Avs, Kings, and Stars are pretty much out of it.
