If Sean Monahan was constantly breaking team rules for years and showed up for a meeting in a track suit, I would hope Gio would throw it in the shower too.
But thankfully Monahan is a better person than that.
Kane is a loser. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the Flames.

Its sending a message.
Its not bullying.
If Evander Kane is sooo darn fragile that this one event makes him walk out of his team, then so be, he isn't worth having around.
I actually think its pretty disgraceful that you're comparing the two.

Personally, I don't. Every indication everywhere is that Evander Kane has some serious immaturity issues. I suspect his act has long since worn thin in Winnipeg, which ultimately led to this.

As much as your "..." seeks to prove your point, I don't really get the relationship with the other poster saying that homophobic slurs are simply accepted. The NHL seems to be trying to crack down on the use of homophobic slurs and I think it's far from accepted. Even at the younger levels of hockey it is becoming much more taboo.

Maybe, but that's what those leaders did. Everyone praised Messier for straightening players out by slamming them into the wall.
BYW your comparison by using Icognito and Martin is complete BS.
Incognito used racism, threatened Martin not because he was trying to be a leader but because he was a complete a$$hole.
Threatened Martin on pretty much a daily basis. With physical violence.
Stalked Martin electronically through phone messages, and texts.
Threatened to find and beat down members of Martin's family.
Bullied Martin to the point, that Martin basically handed money over to Icognito for a trip to Vegas.
Left a voice mail on Martin's phone that called Martin's mother a half n$$$$$ piece of %%% and that he would slap her if he saw her.
Threatened to kill Martin several times.
I know that you think that your comparison to what I posted was clever but it was goofy at best and ill thought out at worst.

not proving a point, no one thought it was an issue in the NFL 2 years ago
and there were 1000s of text and witnesses in a dressing room that said it wasn't
it would be naive to think that kind of stuff doesn't go on in at least 1 NHL dressing room

All I was responding to was the other poster saying, and I quote, "The NHL likes to promote and be a part of #RightToPlay but then in these locker rooms and during the game slurs like "homo" or "fag" are still accepted".
I don't think that these slurs are in fact accepted anymore as he suggests. I'm sure they still happen but they're not accepted in locker rooms or on the ice anymore.
I don't understand your connection to that NFL racism case but again I'm not that familiar with it.

I can't believe I'm saying this CC, but I agree with you - totally.
It diminishes the actual hurtful and damaging acts of bullying that happen every second around the world.
Comparing an overgrown little millionaire puke's just deserts to what many of us went through as children is absolutely insulting.

It's laughable that you think it is one thing, and my point was less about comparing the two and more about the message we are sending.
If there is kid who is a huge fan of Byfuglien in Winnipeg, and he sees Byfuglien being praised as a leader for sending a message by throwing Kane's clothes in the shower then what is going to stop him from doing it tomorrow and seeing no wrong from it.
Whether you are 10 or 50, or if you make $10 per hour or a million dollars it is irrelevant. The act that Byfuglien played out here was bullying and he is a role model for many kids who will think it's alright since Byfuglien did it.
The dislike between Byfuglien and Kane goes back 5 years according to the reports. I would guess that the bullying could potentially go both ways, but maybe not. I would also get that this is clearly not the first thing and something pushed Kane over the edge.
As mentioned I doubt a guy who has never quit on the team before, has been playing through multiple injuries, and was lacing up in his home town would decide to just quit on his teammates based on this one incident.
But sure you can all just go around yelling "IT'S DIFFERENT", "IT'S ACCEPTED", "HE DESERVED IT BECAUSE HE'S AN IDIOT" and ignore that what Byfuglien did was wrong too.
I have a feeling that this is going to be very similar to the Martin and Incognito incident where many different incidents and events between those two are eventually going to get released. Different in that Byfugien may always feel he has a reason for his actions, but still not setting a very good example.

Prove that it was more.
If you're thinking that it was more then one thing, then fine, fabulous. But right now, its on the record as this one incident that caused Kane to bail.
Even his agent is alluding to it being this one incident.

The All Star himself approves of Kane's actions.
not Dany Heatley @DanyAllStar15
Yeah, Evander Kane not showing up to a game because he was pissed is legendary. This kid clearly is on the road to being a 50 goal allstar

The Flames have a team rule Burke implemented that they aren't allowed to use homophobic slurs, even when chirping the other team. I would agree with you that they aren't as accepted anymore.

The cost would have to be very low for it to be worth the risk... And even with this controversy, the jets will ask too much. I wouldn't do baertschi straight up for Kane. I know lots of people will argue that would be a good deal but I wouldn't want to give up on baertschi with he progress we've seen... especially for a risky player like Kane.
On a different note... With everyone comparing the situation to the seguin one... It made me wonder if Dallas would maybe be a good fit for Kane? They've had something similar to this and seguin has thrived under that team. Don't know the price or if Dallas would be even interested but I think it would make Dallas even bigger and more skilled than they already were. Seguin, benn, Spezza, and Kane?

Ugh, do not want. Even if the deal was for minor league players and late round draft picks. Our current roster has made this one of the funnest season I've ever watched. I do not want a documented selfish, entitled cancer destroying a damn near perfect team dynamic. It seems like all the vets have taken varying degrees of leadership roles, the young guys are eager to learn and listen. Everyone is contributing, and we couldn't have a better coach and captain. Not to mention Kane LW that is arguably our deepest position. I'd rather take Gaudreau, Baertschi, Ferland and Klimchuk looking towards the future, than Kane. So if Chevy come calling, this should be Treliving:

So you are fine with Byfuglien, who is a role model to lots of kids out there, being praised for throwing another person's belongings into the shower since he "was sending a message".
Yup kids out there will understand that difference and will know it is unacceptable when they do it to a kid tomorrow.
