He missed on a breakaway versus Calgary. According to some CPers, that's a benching.

Byron would probably be sore after Hartley's done with him.

This is bad in my books as some conference rivalries were wiped out. Division rivalries were happening in the previous format and those div rivalries were also happening in the 3rd round. Now, that's exteremely unlikely.

After Wednesday's games:
Calgary (29-20-3) 26 ROW, 61 pts--second in Pacific Division
San Jose (27-18-7) 25 ROW, 61 pts--third in Pacific Division
1. Winnipeg (26-18-9) 22 ROW, 61 pts
2. Vancouver (28-18-3) 26 ROW, 59 pts
3. Colorado (22-18-11) 15 ROW, 55 pts
4. Minnesota (24-20-6) 22 ROW, 54 pts
5. Dallas (23-19-8) 21 ROW, 54 pts
6. Los Angeles (21-17-12) 20 ROW, 54 pts
Flames won in regulation
Sharks lost in regulation
The Flames are only 11 points back of first place in the conference and overall!

Six points clear of ninth place with 30 games left. Now that's something I didn't picture at the beginning of the season.

Massive night tonight as all our divisional rivals play.
San Jose travel to Vancouver is probably the biggest game of the lot. Would I be correct in saying that an OT win for Vancouver would see us slip back into a wild card spot?
Anaheim travel to Nashville, but thats not really our concern.
Dallas host Tampa and Colorado host Detroit. Tricky games for both, optimistic that both the away teams can win those.
LA play on the road v the Panthers. Panthers are 2-6-1 in their last 9. Even with LA's road struggles, you'd have to imagine they will win this one. Will be chuffed if they don't.
Best case scenario is 3 regulation away wins in the San Jose/Vancouver, Avs and Dallas game, plus Florida beating LA in 60 minutes too. No chance that all falls for us, but I can't see every result going against us. Fingers crossed, will be watching tonight with interest.

I think there's no scenario where the Flames stay in second after tonight. Either the Canucks get an ROW and own the tie-breaker or SJ gets at least one point.
I hate getting sucked into scoreboard watching this early, but i guess it's better to be fighting for the playoffs than a draft pick

Yeah, a Vancouver OTW drops us to the wildcard. My hope is a San Jose regulation win.
Significantly from last night, we are now tied with Winnipeg, with a game in hand, and own the tiebreakers. So assuming Chicago shows up to play for once tomorrow, we should be safely in the first wild card or better for a few days. Two point game in Riotville and we're third in the Pacific.
Colorado and Dallas get eastern teams at home tonight, but two of the toughest.
Forgot how much I hated scoreboard watching late in the season...

Sportsclubstats tells me to cheer for a Vancouver Regular Win over San Jose.
Canucks win in regulation means a 85.7% to make the playoffs for the flames over 85.2% if the Sharks win in regulation.
Any 3 point games and we go to anywhere from 84.8% to 85.1%
We are currently at 85.4%

What a fun year! Even in the Iginla years (except 05/06) the flames were always tenuously holding on to a playoff spot for most of the season until 09/10 when they were always treading water at 9th/10th. Certainly don't remember having a 6 point cushion very often, if ever. I'm confident they will seize the opportunity they have created for themselves.

I think I would rather have the Canucks lose in regulation because they just have way too many games in hand.
