Exactly, especially when they have games in hand.

The question didn't even predicate that. It was simply, when can we see the flames higher in the standings than the Canucks. It didn't even happen in games 1 or 2 of the last couple seasons. However, a couple of days ago it did and that's fantastic

Great game by the Flames.

With Pavelski, Marleau, Couture, Thornton, Burns, etc. I expected a close fought loss tonight. But not with this team -- the secondary scoring is impressive. 2nd in the division and I hope Monahan can hit 25/25 this year.

Loved Couture playing goalie with the empty net.

I thought that was a really nice move by Couture. Someone's gotta tend the goal, right?

The flames looked like a hungry contender ready to prove how good they are while the sharks looked old, slow, and tired... A team that knows their best years are behind them. I know the flames and sharks are actually neck-in-neck in the standings and they likely will be all season but I think the flames will be better than the sharks over the next few seasons as the sharks dip into a rebuild. If that's the case... I'll look at this game as the moment the flames passed them by... Smiling and waving on the way up as the sharks look on in envy on their way down.
Come to think of it, you're right in a way. I used to fear the Sharks, even back in our 07-08, 08-09 team days, cause they were a legitimate contender and we never could quite handle them in a season or playoff series. But this year we walked in and imposed our will in their building and took two wins, in what was previously up with Anaheim for difficult places to play. And in the most crucial meeting between the two clubs this season, we made it look like a walk in the park - didn't even need to make our 3rd period 'push', just played shut down.

Really feels like a crossroads of sorts with the two clubs. So much promise on Calgary's horizon, while San Jose can't figure out who to put the 'C' on anymore, and Thornton and Marleau, who could once single handedly do in the Flames were almost non-factors for their team.

The radio guys said it but I think it's true, Sharks look a lot like the Jokinen Cammalleri Flames. They had their players up front, but certainly weren't going to contend for anything. After the few meetings this year I realize I no longer fear that team.

PS Marleau can still play some good hockey. As much as I hate him, he was really skating well tonight.
Majority of Sharks fans believe he's better then Niemi. There's a decent chance he's their starter next year.

I don't think they meant disrespect at all, at least they shouldn't we'd beaten them 2 of previous 3 meetings.

I can't remember such an aggressive defense of an empty net as that whole last minute. The Sharks were on their heels with the extra attacker.

Agreed.

That play by Thornton on the empty net on Bouma is a message to his teammates. Great leadership with that.

61 points currently. 95 is probably a safe bet to get in given where the teams are now.

That's 34 points in 30 games. Something like 16-12-2. Sounds doable to me.
They're on pace for 96, so they only need to do what they've been doing.

How great would it be if Monahan was able to put up 30-30 by season's end? I think it's very possible since Johnny Gaudreau has been lining up with him and Hudler.

Just a fantastic win and so satisfying to see us in 2nd place in our division for the time being. It GMG how there is a Goodrow player on the Sharks. Don't fall for him, he is a false idol. There is only 1 Gaudreau.

As I went to be last night, I closed my eyes, happy with the position that the Flames are in, and all I could see was two guys with florescent orange and yellow shirts.

That was probably the most nervous I have been watching the 3rd period in about 5 years.
