PK Subban fined $2000 for diving. Was warned in game vs Tampa Jan 6, was caught again vs Rangers on Chris Kreider call last Thursday.

it won't. Diving wouldn't be that big of an issue in soccer if the leagues started to fine and publicly shame players too.

Not to derail, but that is kind of the point. It is accepted and applauded by some soccer fans/teams.

I like Subban but yeah, nice to see him get fined. I love the public shame aspect of it all.

believe me, most soccer fans would embrace fines and suspensions for known divers. It's not like soccer fans actually want players to dive, they are sick of this crap too.

Not enough calls of the penalty in the first place, let alone fining players. It's not enough of a deterrent yet. Someone should have had a $10,000 fine by now.

Another shaming. Awesome. Keep it coming NHL. What's hilarious is that the players fully know once they have been warned that eyes will be on them and yet they still do it.

Yet is has been happening in soccer for as long as I can remember, 30+ yrs.

I like PK and actually dont consider this a dive.
No call either way IMO but I feel there have been much better examples that have not been fined.

because there's no punishment. If the ref deems it diving in that moment, the player will get a yellow card. But if the ref doesn't see it or falls for it, there's no punishment at all. No fines, no suspensions, nothing. THAT'S why there's still diving in soccer, certainly not because of fans accepting/wanting it like you suggested. Fans hate it.
back to topic: I agree, this wasn't a very blatant dive. But yeah, if you've been warned before, this is all that's needed for a fine. Great that league is starting to hand out fines, keep them coming.

Perhaps not diving in the Canucks sense, but definitely embellishment. Krieder gives him a relatively gentle two hand tap and PK goes down like he's been shot by a sniper.

There have been worse, but I strongly suspect this fine is based on a pattern of Subban doing it rather than the egregiousness of this flop

Whether there is worse or not isn't the point.
He dove, you're shamed.
I'll always be for stronger punishments for diving (actually calling the penalties for instance) but I am happy with the public shaming and fining that is going on.

Tough for the Habs to resist - it is a well-oiled machine in MTL - a Hab gets touched, the player collapses, the fans react, power play for MTL.
