The Kings would have to miss the playoffs for several consecutive years before Sutter's job ever came into question, and Lombardi likely has the job for as long as he wants it
Sutter is the kind of coach that has a short shelf life. He wouldn't be in trouble if they miss this year, I don't think, but if they were to continue to slide next year, he's probably back on the farm.

Nicklas Backstrom makes it 3-0 for the Caps. Nice passing play.

Hmm... Kings are going to get passed by one of the avs or stars tonight and the wild could tie them if they hold on.

Ugly goal too. Lazar basically just bulldozed a weak shot through Schneider. Ottawa and New Jersey are no good.

The Kings seem to always straddle the 6-8 spot in the conference usually hanging on at the very end. One wonders if this season they simply can't make it. Glad nobody has helped them out with Richards as the deal helped them win a cup but it's time for them to also absorb the bad part of acquiring a player on that term.

I know everyone is waiting for LA to flip the magic switch and get back into a playoff spot but it might not happen. There's a lot of older guys on that team that have played a ton of hockey the last few years. They might not have it in them this year given the fact that they have won two cups in three years. Sometimes it's hard to be hungry when you're already full.

Having a hard time believing LA will even be able to keep pace with MIN, COL, and DAL, never mind catch up to a wild card team. They just look tired out there.

The best part of Darryl Sutter as a head coach is also what gives him a shorter shelf life than some other coaches as he's very, very demanding. After winning two cups he probably has a bit of rope but we saw with the Flames in 2006 how it could get taxing playing for Sutter as it just felt like the entire team was still executing at a high level but no longer having fun. The way they lost that 7 game series to the Ducks heck even Sutter himself could see it. He would definitely survive missing the playoffs but they are in quite a pickle with that Richards contract as they really could use some cap room to improve the back end.

Evander Kane a healthy scratch for the Jets tonight.

Buffalo's on their way to breaking their 14-game losing streak. Can they do it??

Remember Ken King said that Darryl had the Flames' GM job for as long as he wanted it (I believe in the summer of 2009), and he was fired less than 18 months later. Long leashes can get short pretty quickly.

I certainly don't think either Lombardi or Sutter are in any danger of losing their jobs this summer, but if they struggle out of the gate next year, shake-ups can happen.

At this point, I'd be more willing to bet on the Kings finishing 12th in the Conference (still well ahead of Arizona and Edmonton) than in a playoff spot. They have too many road games remaining and have not been good on the road this year at all.

In fact, if Minnesota holds on to win and Colorado were to beat Dallas in OT tonight, LA would drop to 12th in the Conference tonight.
