Yup, and as another 300 level STH ("Press Level" is such stupid naming), I know that the new rink will probably price me out. I expect that when we do move to the new facility, I will probably get my full seasons for year one to enjoy the building, then probably drop to a game pack. I'm pragmatic about that though. Price of progress.
The 300s are great though. Not only are the washrooms and concession (usually) easy to deal with up there, but getting out is a breeze. Just give a couple minutes for people to start leaving, then walk around the seating bowl to get onto the 200 level concourse. Completely bypass the 17,000 people on the 100 level.

If he is involved in the design and construction then there may be a problem.

King is directly involved in the day-to-day planning of this facility. He is working with a team of professionals who are advising him, like any normal project. To my knowledge, he would not have a construction lead at this point, it's too early for that.
If you think King isn't involved, you're mistaken. If you think he is involved but not part of the conceptual programming, you're also mistaken. Ken King IS the client, and at this stage, he's spearheading it. Like he should be. It's his project, he's representing his own clients, and he's who any consultant would directly be working with.
I think you're getting confused with his role during possible construction down the road with the planning stages that are going on now.

Thats exactly what they want.

Hell, if you sit in the high 200's you get a few minutes of closer action.

Haha, I got a hilarious visual reading that. Like the Avison Young Club seat service, only they walk up to your seat with a small portable toilet like those kids training ones.

Although this post may get some flak the number 1 reason why the Flames need a new arena is from a revenue generation standpoint for both Flames and non Flames events. Items like long waits for washrooms, concession food etc can be looked at with a renovation of the existing dome to SOME degree. Not all the items can be fixed with an older building.
1) With a site off the Stampede grounds and with ample parking the Flames can expect to generate $100+k a game in parking revenue. Factor other events and the parking business can become a huge money source.
2) With an arena off the grounds and more of a local area the Flames will also be able to have the new arena more of a gathering place before, after and on non event games. If anyone has ever been to Real Sports Bar in Toronto knows that place is packed every single day. That specific bar may generate $15 million a year or more in actual sales and is a mecca for the Toronto entertainment scene.
3) Obviously a new arena will be more efficient in terms of energy uses and has the capacity to be more flexible for non hockey events such as concerts etc. This also helps with revenue generation.
4) If the Flames build a new arena and have a "community" style arena next door they Flames could manage it and get any added revenue from smaller events. Say the Flames build a mini- hockey arena like we have at Winsport, Seats 3000, with some concessions, gym facilities, etc. The Flames could use this as a practice rink if need be, sell ice time to local hockey teams and also rent out the facility's to concerts, trade shows, hockey tournaments etc. A LOT of concerts and events that go to places like Jack Singer, Jubilee, local casinos, Maxbell arena etc could go there. That's a lot of rental revenue, concession revenue and parking revenue. The Flames only need a practice arena for a few hours a day at best. They are not going to need a $30 million dollar practice rink for game day skates or a 90 minute practice a few times a week.
Just my $0.02. Sorry about the long post.

Yes, they'll have all that in the new facility.
I guess I'm missing your original point. You said you don't understand why the Flames don't build a dedicated practice facility. A dedicated practice facility will be a key piece of the new building. Unlike a lot of teams whose practice facilities are a long distance from their home arena, the new practice facility will likely be connected directly to the main arena (I assume they'll use their regular dressing room and one door will lead to the arena and one to the practice rink), like they have in Columbus and the new Oilers' building.
Until the new building is open, they'll have to work with what they have available now.

I don't mind waiting for a new arena either. I'm going to miss my PL seats. They are a great deal and for me a great fan experience because of how convenient everything is. My seats will probably cost a lot more in the new arena.

I'm all for a new arena and I hope one gets built soon... as long as provincial tax dollars aren't used to build it.

And if tax dollars are used, then what? Are you going to protest? Stand at City Hall with a sandwich board and demand answers?
Does anyone protest anything about tax dollars in person in this city or is this just typical message board rabble rousing?

How many games have you been to? Ask around, there are much bigger men's rooms then that at the dome.

Probably not. I'll more than likely just show my displeasure at the ballot box.
.... unless of course some polling company calls me and asks my opinion then I'll answer their questions accordingly.

I don't care what the Calgary city council does with Calgarian tax dollars.
Edit: I've gone back and clarified my original post.

I was just yanking your chain.
But since you brought it up... you wouldn't want all of the people of Alberta - including those in Oiler Nation - to help contribute to infrastructure in Calgary?

City Hall should give the 200 Mil for the useless downtown library to the Flames instead. Money better spent on an entertainment megaplex arena.
