Might as well start an Off-Season thread for the CFL.

Jeff Tedford was hired as the new head coach of the BC Lions.

I think this is a good move by Wally Buono. Tedford was a good coach for NCAA and he once was an assistant coach for Wally Buono in Calgary. Jeff Tedford used to play for Calgary Stampeders. He was an okay QB.

I think Travis Lulay will be healthy enough to play the whole season. Benevides made a huge mistake in rushing the guy to play right away only to lose him to recurring injury. It'll be interesting to see if Kevin Glenn will be back.

Gary Etcheverry the defensive coordinator for Winnipeg Blue Bombers was let go the other day.

So, Jacques Chapdelaine is back as a CFL offensive coordinator for Riders. Wow, I used to hate his play-calling when he was the Stamps OC. He was not very creative at all.

Buono announced at the end of the season that Glenn would not be offered a new contract. Lulay can still be an effective player when he's healthy, but I don't think he can be relied upon as a long term solution. I like John Beck but he's likely nothing more than a career backup IMO.

One of the most dominant receivers of the last decade isn't done yet.

After sitting out 2014, Jamel Richardson has returned to the team that he entered the CFL with, signing a contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Richardson returns to Saskatchewan for a second stint after originally entering the Canadian Football League with the Green and White in 2003. The Victor Valley College product spent four seasons with the Riders where he registered 113 receptions for 1,471 yards and four touchdowns in 30 regular season games.

quite a few signings in the past few days. Roughriders signed LB Weldon Brown to a contract extensions on Thursday.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed Luke Tasker to a contract extensions.
Edmonton Eskimos signed former Heisman Trophy finalist from Northern Illinois QB Jordan Lynch. He signed with Chicago Bears last season as a running back but was cut during the training camp. Also, as posted by Otto-matic above, Fred Stamps was traded to Montreal Alouettes for WR Kenny Stafford. Yey, love that Stamps is no longer an Eskies.

Riders trade Foley to Argos for Shea Emry. Lol @ Foley, I believe he was to be a ufa but re-sign with the riders who then traded him.

Hopefully Emry doesn't try to end careers.

4 year deal, a little long but we needed to keep our only legitimate receiver. That's a position that needs to be shored up for next year. Now, hopefully this extension did not come at the price of not re-signing Heenan

Very good signing for Saskatchewan. Dressler is still absolutely an impact receiver, and I'm surprised that he would agree to a 4-year deal. I knew he was loyal, but I must admit, that's impressive.

That's excellent from the Riders perspective, because all CFL contracts are non-guaranteed, so they can cut him (or re-negotiate the contract) at any time if he loses a step or his skills diminish before 2019. They'd only be out the signing bonus.

Speaking of which, I wonder what kind of terms (including signing bonus) he got. That will largely determine how active they'll be in free agency this year.

Good for Dressler and good for the league, it's nice to have star players committed to staying in this league for on-going stability.

I read that Getzlaf was the 2nd highest paid receiver in the league, I wonder if today's signing pushes him down to 3rd.

Former Colts WR Austin Collie signs in BC. Was a favorite target of Peyton Manning before multiple concussions slowed him down.

The kicker is that he may also qualify as a national because he was born in Canada?

Former Roughriders OLine Ben Heenan has agreed to terms with an NFL team. It is either San Diego Chargers or Indianapolis Colts.

Heenan, 6-4, 316 pounds, played the last three seasons (2012-14) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) after being selected by the team with the first overall pick of the 2012 CFL Draft. He competed in 52 career games on the offensive line, starting 49 contests. In 2014, Heenan started all 21 games for the Roughriders for the first time in his career. In 2013, he started 16 games at right guard and right tackle and helped the Roughriders win their fourth Grey Cup in franchise history. As a rookie in 2012, Heenan saw action in a total of 15 games and started 12.
