How long is the leash on Byron?
I expect this to be an unpopular topic.
Paul Byron. So tough to watch.
On one hand he is now on game 28 without a goal.
On the other hand he is like a mosquito out there buzzing around causing commotion. He isn't causing the team a net loss. He is generating turnovers but ultimately The puck isn't going in the opponent's net
At what point does the team give his icetime to a prospect to see if they can produce more offensively?
I'm at the end of the leash with him myself, and prepared to sacrifice the defensive aspect for the chance someone else can put the puck in the net.

It's frustrating but I think the team needs to show a little faith. He does all the right things out there and you've gotta think some of these chances are going to find the twine.
So fricken frustrating though...

Its frustrating that he's so snake bit, but he's one of our best momentum drivers IMO.
He's a surprisingly important part of our team and I'd rather see Bollig, Stajan, Raymond, and Jones scratched ahead of him.

The Flames are a decent team right now, bordering on playoff but there is still a lot of fat to be trimmed from the forward ranks.
Byron, Bollig, Raymond and Jones (though he's played okay this year) could all be sent their walking papers without any worry from me.

I love Paul. But he's nothing more than an energy player. We shouldn't expect him to be a big point producer. The energy he brings to this team right now is needed, anything more is just bonus.

It is so frustrating to see the Flames get a break away, then realize it is Byron and just know that it has zero chance of turning into a goal. He'd be better off pulling up and looking for someone to pass to.
So brutal.

When he's projected to be a top 6 forward and difference maker on the team I would imagine his leash will tighten.
Until then, he's putting in the effort and getting chances. While it's a bit of a running joke, it really is no surprise that he isn't capitalizing in the same way as guys much higher on the depth chart would with the opportunities he has gained.

This thread is ridiculous, Byron gets paid as a fourth liner and contributes much more than that. Yeah, it's frustrating that he isn't scoring on his chances, but at least he's using his speed out there. He does everything right and is always giving 100%

Plays hard with nothing to show for his efforts. Time to shake him up and put Wolf in, scratch Byron for a game or two.

Does Byron pass through waivers to be sent to Adirondak in the hopes of regaining some finishing touch?
It's so insanely frustrating to watch him go game after game with the glorious chances only to depressingly acknowledge the fact that we all know what outcome is going to be.
Love the effort, love the speed, love the heart. But for me that's not enough. Even the sun shines a dogs behind some days. More than it does on Byron.

Byron doesn't take shifts off, he keeps the pace of the game up, rarely makes the wrong plays. He's replaceable like players in his position tend to be, but I honestly think he's doing well.
He gets chances because he's in the right place and never slows down. Even if he doesn't score on those, he's still a player who is in the right place and never slows down and that gets you lot everywhere on the ice.

Sven has 5 AHL goals this year
Byron has 5 NHL goals
Sven is supposed to be the offensive talent right?

More than a 20 game difference and Sven still has more points.

Part of me wants to punish Byron just for the number of breakaways he's missed. I hope someone is keeping count because that has got to be a record.
But he also plays hard. It's not like he's not trying or he's floating around. He's just legitimately snake bitten and it sucks and I honestly feel sorry for the guy.

He sits 11th on the team in shots, 15th in shooting % and 13th in points. From a purely offensive perspective he's the definition of middle of the pack. It sucks the breakaways are so noticeable, but there are other guys that should have the leash tightened before him (if you're only concerned about offense).
