Saddledome is looking like a nice place when people are suffering to pay heating bills.

Just because you don’t understand it, Tyler, does not mean that it is stupid.

I agree that it will probably take time until they announce, but sadly it's not because "people are suffering to pay heating bill". Those people couldn't afford to go to flames games anyway. ( not trying to sound harsh). Hell, Detroit is living in mad max times and are getting a new arena.

The people that can't afford tickets (or their heating bill) are also paying for the rink in Detroit.

The Senators have taken the first step to build a new downtown arena.

The flooding a year and a half ago may have taken a bit of a toll on the plans. It was very expensive. I remember reading that very early on in the situation, that it may affect the timeline of the new arena plans by a few years. Dunno how true that is, if it's just speculation, etc, but makes a bit of sense.

I was under the impression that insurance covered all of the damage

Not what I heard, but you could be right, I really don't know. Still insurance companies get their money somehow. There's gotta be a deductible and an increase in premiums. Not sure how much that counts in the larger scheme of things.

@Fan960Steinberg: For those on #Flames arena watch, Gary Bettman met Mayor Nenshi for the first time yesterday. Live on @Sportsnet960 right now.

This much information continues to circulate: The team has pinpointed three potential locations for the arena, including one on the western edge of the downtown core close to an LRT line. Architectural designs have been done to show what the new arena could look like. The designs include the possibility of a field house being built next to the arena. That field house would be open to the public and amateur sports teams.

Orange Julius time.... Well, actually bank rep at the RV show eating a bag of Old Dutch BBQ chips time.
He says a guy he knows connected to the team said Bettman is in town right now, and there may be an announcement in the next 24 hours.
Take it for what it's worth. Which is probably nothing.

Is Bettman just touring the west or is there a particular reason (arena talk) he's in Calgary? Did he do that for Edmonton?

Bettman is definitely in town today (they just showed him walking into the Saddledome on Sportsnet).
I was invited to a STH information session with Bettman at the Boyce Theatre before today's game. I wasn't able to make it, so I don't know what was said, but I'm sure someone around here went to it.

Some kind of substantial news on the whole freaking situation would be welcome to the average fan.
I still cannot believe the Oilers get their new Home well before Calgary will. That shouldn't have happened.

Bettman was at a dinner honoring one of the Flames owners last night at the Calgary Jewish Foundation
