Two days later they trade for Lapierre.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Lapierre is the 4th line centre Penguins were looking for. Good speed. Decent on draws.

Lapierre makes 1.1 million. Goc 1.2 million. Both UFA at the end of the year.

Goc 'Safer', Lapierre more 'Dynamic'.

Pens need a physical presence.

No, at least Cooke can competently play hockey when he's not being a scumbag.

Cooke is one of the dirtiest players I've ever seen. Lapierre may not be nearly as good but he's also not so dangerous and reckless. He's more in the Burrows mold (embarrassment to the game). Not that Cooke is not an embarrassment, he's just more inherently evil IMO

Well they also whined endlessly about concussions while employing Matt Cooke so this is nothing new for the pens.

Anyone think either of these 2 guys are going to make big positive contributions to their new team on the ice?

Or is this a crap for crap trade?

I've always thought Goc was one of the better 4th line centres in the league, I followed him for a while now though

I wouldn't say crap for crap, more like a lateral move. Feelings for Lapierre (not a fan what so ever) aside, I think the Pens got the better of the deal.

I like this a lot for the Pens. Lapierre is everything we all say he is and more in the ###### column. That said, he can provide that playoff jam and get under the skin of the opposition. Good at the dot and accepts his role.
I personally can't stand the guy, he makes my skin crawl for his "dynamic" style of dirtbag, biting, b**ch work. That said, he's an upgrade for the Pens when spring hockey rolls around over Goc as a role player.

i think the pens are trying to avoid the situation they've been in the past few seasons where they are easily frustrated with opposition taking liberties on their big name guys.

if the pens weren't annoying and easy to cheer against enough already, this move definitely doesn't help their cause.

I"m guessing that if the pens meet the flyers in the playoffs, Lapierre is going to do something dirty to one of their stars early on. Or it'll just happen next game they play.

Glad Lapierre is out of this conference, won't have to see that smug grin on his face as often.
