^^^

I put those on my Jeep Liberty, they are awesome.

I bought the Jeep only to run in the winter, and the odd time in the summer to tow my trailer, and I wanted a Hybrid tire, that I didn't need to take on and off. They have performed great so far. I picked up my set for 30% off in November.

Got the Cooper Discoverer AT/W tires installed yesterday. HUGE difference in road noise over the Goodyear Duratracs that I took off. For that alone its well worth it.
I may regret is someday if I end up in a deep ditch in a foot of snow but what are the chances of that happening. Roads are dry right now so I have no idea how they perform in light snow and ice but I suspect they will be be better than the Duratracs (which is also a winter rated tire).

Nice, good to hear. Still weighing my options for my new truck and there's not a lot in this size. Duratracs are a good tire but the design is getting old, not surprised to see others surpassing it. I'll look into the coopers

I did a lot of research on the internet before buying the Cooper AT/W's.

I had four requirements:

1. All-Terrain (I own a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon)
2. All-Weather (I hate swapping tires between summer & winter)
3. Relatively quiet on the hwy (Jeep Wranglers are noisy enough as it is without having tires howling away at 100 kph..)
4. As inexpensive as possible.

The Cooper Discoverer AT/W's met all four requirements.

I've got Michelin LTX m/s2 tires on my Ford Escape. Good traction in the winter and very quiet on the highway during the summer.

Are those an All-weather tire or a Winter tire?

Edit: From what I just read on the internet, they are All-season. They don't have the snowflake/mountain symbol which means they aren't winter certified.... unless I'm mistaken. I was looking for a tire that was winter rated, which all-weather tires are.

^correct

The only dedicated winters that are LT rated I can find in my size are Blizzaks, which I don't like, and Goodyear Nordics, which are alright but in this size I can imagine them being way too soft and floaty. That leaves me looking for a winter rated All Terrain tire. Duratrac's, those Coopers, and maybe something like a Kelly Safari comes to mind.

There are lots of passenger car winters in this size but I'm not sure how they'd handle the weight, haven't looked into load ratings yet. Can anyone comment on how something like a Hakkapeliitta, or Pirelli Scorpion, would work on a light truck?

Kal Tire carries a few Light Truck All-Weather winter rated tires.
I don't know too much about them though.

You may have just solved that for me, I had no idea Nitto made a winter rated Grappler

Anybody know the difference between the WR and the WRG3's?

We had WR's on our first car and liked them (way back in 2007); WRG2's on our second car and found they had sub-par mileage. As a result, we decided to get dedicated winters instead of WRG3's on our new car this year.

It looks like they're now selling just the WR and WRG3... perhaps the WRG2's just weren't cutting it?

I've been looking at the Multi-Mile Wild Country XTX Sport for my next set of tires on my SUV. Good price and supposedly they are made by Cooper.

I have WRG2 from the previous owner of my car, Kal Tire said many of them were discontinued. Not sure of the reason though.

I don't know the difference between the various versions of Nokian WR model but I have heard that the NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA 7 is the cat's ass as a dedicated winter tire.

Just a note on something I've seen quite a few times sitting in traffic. Double check that your winter tires are installed with the correct rotation direction. I've seen too many vehicles with the arrows pointing the wrong way.

The arrow should be pointed towards the front of the vehicle when at the top of the tire.

This can greatly effect your traction.

At least they'll have great traction going in reverse!

Could be mistaken, but I seem to recall Dion doesn't believe in winter tires.

You haven't experience "good traction" until you have real winter tires. My spouse was always saying how good her 4x4 was with her all-seasons. Once I installed winter rated tires, she said it was night and day difference. We won't have anything but winter rated tires on our vehicles at this time of year.

Pretty much. I have never met a person who bought winter tires once, and then said "meh, my all seasons are good enough" and never bought them again.

Here's one. Mind you I think getting the best tires for the job is a smart thing to do but in general I've had good success with all season tires.

Another thing I grew up driving rear wheel driven bias plied tires, and all seasons combined with front wheel or all wheel drive cars were a huge improvement. I've had rear wheeled cars with snow tires and the results were so so. Mind you that was years ago and the technology has probably greatly improved. Currently I have some Nokian M&S on a 4x4 SUV and they've been good in what little snow I've used them in. Next set will be some all weather tires though.
