Icon42 Brodeur retires. Joins Blues front office. Will join Devils next season

Martin Brodeur is stepping away from the crease and joining the St. Louis Blues front office, Sportsnet has learned.

The NHL’s all-time winningest goalie made the decision after taking a break from the NHL team to ponder his future. Two sources confirmed that Brodeur took the Blues up on the offer of an executive role.

What an anti-climactic way to go and a an interesting choice to work in the Blues front office.

Did not see joining management as being an option for him. Maybe he can un-retire in a pinch for them and back them up.

Too bad he didn't stay with Jersey. I find it odd though that he didn't go back with Lamoreillo. I wonder if there's bad blood there?

Maybe, but Lou is nothing if not extremely practical and team goal oriented. He's not the sentimental type, so he's less likely than a lot of GMs and presidents to hire based on long playing service.

7 games as Blues' goaltender wasn't worth it.

He is listed as a Senior Advisor to the GM on the Blues website.

Now if that is an actual job or just a figurehead position for an alumnus is debatable.

It's way easier to stomach a Blues lapel pin on his blazer than that note on his helmet.

One of the best goalies of all time. He kinda dragged things out for the last few years, kinda wish he would have retired earlier. Surprised he didn't stay in the Devils organization.

Anticlimactic.
Your word means against or in opposition to climate. Which doesn't really make a lot of sense.

St. Louis is warmer than NJ.

Hmmm

@Ledger_NJDevils: Lou Lamoriello says Martin Brodeur will be back with Devils but will finish this season in Blues' front office. http://nj.com/devils

@Ledger_NJDevils: Lamoriello: "He could've come here if he wanted." http://nj.com/devils

@Ledger_NJDevils: Lamorillo: "I don;t think it's a case of choosing. He's been (in St. Louis) with the players. The players and administration asked him...

@Ledger_NJDevils: "...to stay. I certainly understand. Marty and I have been in constant contact." http://nj.com/devils

Lou seems to think that Brodeur will join the Devils after this season

I hated his decision to stay in hockey last year and this year he made himself look foolish. But never the less he is an absolute legended. Thank you Marty Broduer you were always fun to watch!

@TGfireandice: Brodeur's position with Blues will be for the rest of season. He felt part of that team after playing for them/working with coaches, players

@TGfireandice: Both Brodeur and Doug Armstrong discussed with Lou Lamoriello before decision was made. Brodeur will be back with Devils after that.

That explains it. Plus gives Marty a bit of extra experience
