There are oceans of good new music, but commercial radio is not really designed to bring it to you.

I can't comment much before 2002, but it seems they used to play them more? Maybe I just listen less these days....

Without Cjay 92, where are all the affliction wearing, tribal tatted, truck nutz sporting dude bros gonna get their musical fix? Especially when their pre-paid mastercard is maxed out, and their Sirius subscription is cut-off for non payment. Ozzy's Boneyard aint' gonna replace itself.

It seems they get stuck on 2 or 3 songs from each band and don't deviate often enough. Play 7 Red Hot Chili Peppers songs, instead of 2, play 7 Metallica songs instead of 3, an so on, and all of sudden you've got yourself a much bigger variety and a station way easier to tune into.
Really? So they've started to discover that Metallica has songs other than Enter Sandman?

CJAY 92 really fostered my hate of Collective Soul.

They used to play 'One' at least. I'm glad to hear they brought it back.

I'm surprised CJay still exists, and at the hate here. I kind of thought a hockey board might hit some of their target market. So the outstanding question is who on earth is listening to them?

There's plenty of good new rock playing on SiriusXM. But then again they aren't staffed by a bunch of geriatrics stuck in the 80's

Any time I happen to be flipping through the dials and pause on CJAY, I marvel at how many of the songs I hear are the same songs I used to hear back when I first moved to Calgary in 1999. Looking at that Twitter feed, I bet that at least 3/4 or maybe 3/5 songs at any randomly selected period of time are songs that have been out since no later than the year 2000. They are a classic* rock station with a few new tunes reluctantly sprinkled into the mix.

*If you allow "classic" rock to mean songs that are 20+ years old.

It's one thing to be repetitive, but it's much worse when it's playing the same lame songs for 20+ years.

Oh, and get rid of Gerry Forbes. They'll remain on my boycott list until he's gone.
In defense of CJAY they have to play Canadian content and while you can argue they maybe don't play enough current rock you can also argue that Canadian rock talent has fallen off a cliff since the 90's. No successors to the Hip and not even bands like Moist, Econoline Crush, Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth, etc to fill the airwaves with. It's a barren wasteland for Canadian rock which means Nickelback and oldies.

For anyone playing the pylon drinking game, this post is a doozy.

Simply not true.

42,000+ artists and bands recorded on CBC 3.

I'm not saying Canadian artists and bands don't exist. I'm just saying that popular Canadian artists and bands don't exist like they did a few decade or two ago. If CJAY exclusively plays the content you linked every day people change the station.

I suggest people give Art of Dying a listen.

Ok, I see what you are saying now. The music industry has changed dramatically. Bands don't need record companies to support them. We may not see many Canadian bands filling large arenas, but they have followings that are more difficult to measure.

Here is a list of all Gold/Platinum albums in Canada in 2014, with many Canadian entries:

http://musiccanada.com/gold-platinum...tal-downloads/

Arcade Fire was triple platinum, and played the Saddledome.

The new metric might be twitter followers, facebook likes, festival and late show appearances.

Last few times I've actually listened to the radio (i.e. when the iPod is dead), I heard Foo Fighters on Q107 (Classic rock - 1997?) and Nickelback on the Eagle 100.9 (which also claims to be a classic rock station). I've always found the term "classic rock" to be lazy and annoying, and the fact that it apparently only means rock from 15 years or more ago seems to reinforce what an idiotic term it is.

they still play the odd gem...like for whom the bell tolls but really commercial radio sucks big time. People that hate CJ what is your alternative? Its not like there are any other good radio stations in Calgary. X929 are a bunch of whinny hipsters

I'll stick to the fan 960 or stuff I record off the net
