Flames have not had recent contract talks with Glencross
Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson
Not a major surprise, but #Flames GM Brad Treliving tells Sportsnet Fan 960 there have no recent contract talks with LW Curtis Glencross.
could change at any moment but FWIW with the team's highest profile UFA

Just listened. Doesn't sound like he has held extension talks with Glencross or Ramo

I'm torn. I like the guy, I appreciate that he took a hometown discount to play here, but do we need him in the future?
I'd be fine with a short contract if he takes a big hometown discount but if rumours are true that he's looking to get paid then I'll pass.
Extending Ramo on the other hand, I'd be curious about.

I've suspected that Ramo and Glencross were not pieces moving forward for the flames for a while. Maybe they're just waiting until coser to the deadline to hash it out but I don't think Burke or Treliving will let them walk for nothing like it happened with Cammy this time.
Not sure how it's going to shake down But I'd prefer to move on from Glencross and to a lesser extent Ramo.

He'll likely want around $5M AAV with term (rightfully so), and given his age and our stage in the rebuild, that doesn't make sense.

He was too busy at the pool in Disney with his family this past week to talk maybe?

If that's the case then I agree. He'd deserve it but doesn't fit our team

My hope is Ramo and Glencross are both moved at the deadline regardless of the Flames spot in the standings. It's very likely neither will be back if they hit free agency as there's no room for Ramo and Glencross will be expecting more than his play and age merits.

I wouldn't mind to see Glencross go somewhere else.

I hope we can trade him at the deadline or at least trade his rights near the draft.

Yeah, not too choked up here. Case of "how will we ever replace glencross??" A la Cammalleri. I think pretty easily.

Perfect scenario we flip Glencross for something decent before deadline. Nothing against him but I know he's going to want a big contract and I don't think the Flames should pay it. No issue with Ramo leaving either. If we can land something for him that's a bonus.

In all honesty, if you are hoping to move Glencross, you are hoping we fall completely out of the playoff picture. In short, you are hoping we lose. While Treliving and Burke could move him regardless, I think they realize he is a very important piece of our playoff run.

I am hoping they move him, and I am most certainly NOT hoping we lose.
I believe we could deal Glencross away for futures and not really miss him too much. We have a boat load of young guys ready to step in and this team scores by committee for the most part anyhow.

Our playoff run is not important enough to not trade a guy like Glencross if you can get good assets in return. A playoff push is nice...but only if it doesn't get in the way of long-term planning.
As for Ramo, I still wish he could succeed here and be the one to team up with Ortio next year...but at this stage it wouldn't be a huge loss to see him go. I really doubt you'd get a Berra-esque 2nd for him, but one can dream.

I'm not one of those guys that's always dumping on Glencross but I feel his value to this team isn't nearly as high as some would like to think. I highly doubt that if the Flames trade him their season would immediately head south as if anything this team has shown the ability to overcome players out of the lineup.
In a perfect world the Flames could retain him (and maybe both parties still can find middle ground on a deal) but economically it's not going to be prudent for this franchise to pay $$$ for an aging vet and rather than repeat last year where the Flames didn't recoup any assets for Cammalleri I feel given this stage of their rebuild it would be most beneficial to acquire a solid asset if possible. Obviously if the offers are of the 3rd round pick variety then you hold on to him but they should shop him and if the offers are 2nd round pick or better I feel not trading him would be doing a disservice to the rebuild.
