Pretty sure that rule applies to players initially named to the roster of the game.
Otherwise the NHL would force players like Subban or Pavelski to show up as injury replacements.

I agree that part is dumb, but the negative reaction is because it's Gaudreau, not because the rosters will be uneven.

Well, he's a Flame and fun to watch, so some Flames fans will be ticked off. Understandable.
For me it's just weird that a rookie like Forsberg can be added but not JH. And now the rosters will be uneven. I don't get it. Either don't add Forsberg or add JH and make the rosters even.

Uh, isn't that the whole point? People are mad because Johnny is the obvious choice to replace Crosby, but he's not playing even though he should be. Even without the Sportsnet tweet, I would have been pissed that they didn't fill the spot with Gaudreau. If it was any other player, I wouldn't really care.
