probably because they were intimidated by RNH's man strength that he gained by going to the NHL directly.

Gotta agree, it's one thing when Crosby was out for weeks/months with a "neck" injury. But to pull the plug the night before the break... he should still make an appearance.

I imagine Iggy and Phaneuf were in young stars games (if there was such a thing in Iggy's day). Iggy turned out OK.

Didn't exist for Iggy.
Dion probably would have made the actual team but there was no all-star game that year due to the 2006 Olympics.

I'm pretty sure that if a player misses the ASG with an injury now they have to either miss the game before or after the break. It's the Red Wings rule.

I remember the uproar around here when Ladislav Smid was picked for the Young Stars game over a guy named Mark Giordano. Gio had more goals and points than Smid at that point. It was a stupid joke then and looks like an even bigger joke now.
