Such a pet peeve of mine how quickly so many fans simply decide based on nothing or at least no relevant comparables that some player down on the farm could not only easily replace their NHL equivalent but best them despite not having seen them play a single shift of NHL action. It's simply not possible for most of us on here to know jack unless we've seen the player play some games in the NHL.
|
That's easy. Most posters have seen what Bollig brings to the table at an NHL level. Bollig and Wolf have similar attributes to their game but Wolf is still an unknown at the NHL level. To suggest they'd like to swap Bollig for Wolf is to try something new because one isn't working which also allows these same posters to be able to see how he plays. I don't see how this is a pet peeve and it's not a quick decision based on nothing, its 46 games in the season and Bollig has been terrible and still not being a positive factor in most games he's played.

So let's not assume Wolf's AHL scoring translates into being better than Bollig up here, even offensively.
|
People are not making "assumptions", they're giving their opinions based on available statistics and watching these guys play. If Wolf gets zero assists in 38 games played, that will still only leave him 2 points off Bollig's pace. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect he will do better offensively than Bollig, particularly if you look at Bollig's AHL stats in the same timeframe (as set out by GrantEEV). I also think Wolf brings a lot more jam. What is that you think Bollig is bringing to the Flames that Wolf doesn't deserve a shot?

Further to my last post, Wolf has 18 points in 33 AHL games. Bollig had 24 points in 146 AHL games and has added 16 points in 163 NHL games. How silly to think Wolf is likely to have a greater offensive impact than Bollig.

Prior to this season, Sven put up 24 points in 51 games in the NHL. His output was a mess this year when his linemates were pretty much Setoguchi, Byron and Bollig, and he really shouldn't even have been called up since I think he was pretty cold in the A. He got off to a really bad start to the season in either league. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Byron scored about two-or-three goals directly created by Sven. I don't think he's potted one since.

Wolf and Bollig don't play in the same league, so their point totals aren't comparable. My beer league points don't mean what Bollig's NHL points do for example (on the extreme side). Also, very few people forming opinions have seen much of Wolf play, and they haven't seen him play at the NHL level because he never has.
People are making huge leaps on what Wolf's abilities are based on him playing inferior competition, and are being hard on Bollig who has made it to the top level of the sport and is therefore has a much harder path.
There is nothing wrong with expressing a desire to see what Wolf's got, and see if he can better Bollig, that makes total sense. A lot of posters are already declaring that Wolf has proven that he can bring what Bollig does at the NHL level, which is simply not the case.

I want to see Wolf at some point because he's a tenacious German with an Arnie accent and the 1000-foot stare of a rabies-ridden predator of the Black Forest.
/end reasoning.

The NHL points don't matter because Bollig has next to nothing this season and Wolf has no NHL games however based on potential and historical statistics in the AHL that COULD be compared, between the two players, Wolf is a better player than Bollig.
Also the declaration that Wolf has proven he can bring what Bollig does at the NHL, which is a big body, hard hitting, and fighting, this is actually the case. So on the flip side of things, tell me what you think Bollig brings to the Flames that Wolf cannot?

Forget offence, who cares? I just want to see if Wolf can be a wrecking ball/s-dusturber in the NHL, something Bollig has disappointed at

I think that's what it comes down to. I'm not sure why people are comparing Bollig vs Wolf's AHL point totals. That's not what either of their roles are for. Fact is, Bollig was brought here to be an 'enforcer' who could also play and not be a liability. Something that most NHL teams would find as valuable. He's disappointed in that regard. But in the (very) few occasions he has been that player in games, he's been able to turn games around. We need a guy like that, and Bollig sucks at that. I'd say Bouma is the best we have at that. Wolf has been scouted to potentially be that guy also. He's not going to be brought up to put up points, but the fact that he is capable of that is a bonus. He's here for his physical play and to be one of those guys who can turn a game around playing that way. None of the guys on our roster do that currently, especially not Bollig. So I can see why some people already have Wolf rated higher, myself included.
I really hope he gets the chance to showcase himself at the NHL level. He seems like he has a great personality and is a great team mate. I think he'd do just fine on the Flames.

I think Bolig is starting to think he's a better hockey player than he really is. After being on the hawks and playing with such good players, he's forgot his role. I think if there is a chance to move him, we should and I think he'd do well on a more "talented" team. Wolf would be an ideal replacement option but I'd like to see how he does for a few games first. His point totals are nice to see because it would be nice to see the fourth line play a little bit of a finesse game once in a while too.

It's not Bollig's fault. We did give up a 3rd rounder for him and Treliving did say that he felt Bollig could play a bigger role in Calgary than in Chicago. That had to pump Bollig's tire a little.

oh ya, it's not Bolig's fault at all. I still think he's a good player but I just think that he'd be better off (and so would we) if he was on another team. I could see him going to the rangers if they're seriously looking for a bottom 6 player.

lol. Anyway watching Raymond out there is is so ineffective. He doesn't hit, doesn't drive the net and is a perimiter player. Watching him he almost never keeps his feet moving and looks engaged. At this point having McGratton on the team would benefit more than Raymond. I think he is done being an effective NHLer just like Settiguchi.
