QOTD: What WILL the Flames do with Ortio?
Not what do you want, but what will they do?
First three goals were not his fault last night, but they now have a loss, and a yank to base a case to send him down for the all star game and the rest of the season (or up to the trade deadline if Ramo is moved)
What do they do?
His updated stats are now 1.98 and .931 (he sucks now!)

I think the Flames shop Ramonat the deadline and bring Ortio back up.

With his streak over it's easier to send him down. With Ramo back I see Ortio going back to the AHL for now, but I'm not convinced Ramo will be dealt at the trade deadline.

I think the Flames try to shop Ramo, but nothing eventuates. I think Joni is here full time next season backing up hiller.

No the bubble has burst it's time to send him back down. I picked what I hope would be the case with Ramo getting moved for an asset at the deadline but depending on the playoff race it's possible the Flames just keep Ramo for the season and let him leave in free agency.

The problem they have is that if they send him down now, some will accuse them of doing so purely on last nights game. I personally feel they have 3 options here:
1. Keep him up and let him play some of the home stand, lets see if he game returns to its high level in the 4 game winning streak.
2. Send him down and roll with Hiller and Ramo.
3. Look to trade Hiller or Ramo and keep Ortio as a legit backup guy.
I personally would send him down. It would feel like its being done after 1 bad game, but I don't think there is a large enough sample size to warrant looking at trading one of the other 2 goalies. Let him go back to Addy and rack up some decent numbers.
As an afterthought, maybe he could take Raymond with him?

I think with the loss he's sent down. Not any fault of his, he played great pretty much the entire time and the team seems to really rally around him. He's the goalie of the future, but not ATM. I think as long as the 2 vet goalies are healthy they both split the remaining games. I have no issue with Ortio over-ripening in the AHL and I think management recognizes that too. He'll have his chance next season when his 1-way contract kicks in.

AHL announces Joni Ortio will not be available for the All-Star Classic. OKC's Bachman will replace him.
Great timing!

I have to assume Ortio knew the plan for the season this year. He plays in the AHL this year and Hiller/Ramo play the NHL. Next year, one of them is gone (likely Ramo) and Otrio comes up to the NHL full time.
The injury with Ramo caused the call up, nothing else. They rode the "hot hand" and now, with Ramo back, it's time to return to the original plan.
I think Ortio will be fine with a decision like that, as they let him go for a bit of a run that was completely unexpected when the season first started.

He did great. Send him down with the intention of getting him back up when there is a spot.
I'd like to see Hartley go back to just rotating Hiller/Ramo like he did in September. It seemed like both guys were pushing each other. Hiller looked awesome last night. Maybe he plays best when he is worried about losing his net.

Great showing for Ortio, the future looks bright.
That said, time to send him down. I certainly don't blame him for last night.
You have three goalies. Ramo and Hiller have not disappointed. One can go down without any problems. Addy can also keep rolling with him back. Good for the kids.
At least the Flames know that they certainly don't have to re-sign Ramo as Ortio is ready for the NHL. Or move Hiller and re-sign Ramo.
Anyways it was impressive for Ortio to come up and take the opportunity and run with it.

Going by the comments from Treliving, I'd say a deal for one of Ramo or Hiller is very close and Ortio is here to not only stay but to be the starter.

I didn't get that at all. I got that they "have a plan" and that he's earning his ice time. Last showing doesn't help that plan

AHL to the trade deadline and then I think they move Ramo or Hiller, I would like to move Hiller out but I don't know if they would trade him considering Ramo is a UFA.
I also think that we haven't seen the last of Ortio this season in Calgary, maybe for now but not for good.

I agree with all of this except I think he still needs to earn the starters roll. I think we are close to a deal for sending a goalie off that could include one or two more players and it could be for getting better on defense.
I think Ortio is up for good.

I think a trade's in the works for Ramo or Hiller already, won't wait for the deadline.

Hiller gets next start. Plays until he loses. Then start Ortio again until he loses. How long can Ramo stay in limbo?

I thought they would be sending him down until they make a deal to keep him up. But if he's staying then you start him against Buffalo to see how he responds to the poor outing in Anaheim. Not his fault last night (on most of the goals) but it still wears on a guy I'm sure.
