Totally, different, but I am pumped how my rink turned out. Although small 20'x30' the kids and I spent 90 mins on it yesterday. Shooting, passing and skating.

My son has plans to expand it to 30'x40' next year.

Should have done it a couple of years ago.

Varsity Community Centre looks great. The main rink is ready while the smaller sheet of ice by the tennis courts is still being worked on.

Looking for a good rink to play some shinny, preferably in SW or close to downtown.
Have been to Olympic Heights and Altadore so far, wondering where people have found the best ice.

The neighbour across the road has a pond. My boy is over there every single day, gets off the bus and goes straight to the pond. We skate way more than when we lived in the city and had to commit to going to the community rink. It's so much better to have your own(ish) rink.

I'm still waiting for applewood to put the ice down. It's kind of disappointing they have this awesome rink built but didn't do ice last year and so far nothing yet this year. Last message I got from them was they had a couple of people doing the city ice making course. Has anyone taken this course how long does it take? It sucks I live almost right across the street from it and I haven't been able to use it yet since I've moved to applewood.

The ice is really horrible right now. It's fun in a sense, but need another thaw-freeze cycle to fill in the cracks..

Not sure if I am crazy about the gas fire pits. Doesn't feel as toasty around the fires.

Spent a couple hours last night shoveling and snow blowing the rink in Mckenzie Lake. Been a tough year with with the early heat, and any time it snows the amount of work is crazy!

The ice however is in pretty reasonable shape. Should be nice and clear today.

Gas fire pits in bowness? Still 2 of them? Doesn't that seem much more expensive than wood?

Bowness changed quite a bit where the benches once were. There are about 4 gas fire pits.. I guess less work for maintenance staff to turn them on and off.

Keep me posted. Probably the closest outdoor 'rink'. There are a bunch of little rinks set up on Chestermere lake and the small ponds scattered around.

Applewood hasn't taken any time to take care of the ice. I know it's warm during the day But it gets pretty cold at night. They let it melt away. Does it have to get to -20 for them to be able to water it down.

Have you bothered to contact the community association to possibly get some information about the folks who are, likely, volunteering to do the job? Maybe you can find out if they need help or provide some tips of maintaining the ice. In most cases the rinks are maintained by community volunteers who have day jobs and families.

I have and I have passed my phone number on to them to give to the people doing the ice. I live very close I told them I could do whatever to help. I couldn't make the meeting where they took volunteers because I was working a different shift then. I told them I would volunteer to do the ice but I had to be at the meeting. I have contacted them many times. Applewood has got a really good outdoor parks and recreation for their residents. They have a outdoor gym, one of the biggest playground in the city and this nice boarded rink with all the hook ups for water. They just don't maintain it. It is rather disappointing

That stinks. It makes no sense that whoever is in charge couldn't meet one on one at some point to see if you could help out in some capacity.
