I know he was a Calgary Hitmen, but for the life of me I can't picture where he lined up. He also played with the UofC for a few years. He's got a strong Calgary connection.

OMG you guys are killing me......there are some really good guys playing for Idaho and Ontario too....
Nixon's a LW. Cant recall him ever really taking a faceoff.
And Moon just scored.....

Funny you mention Ontario. I looked at Gasper Kopitar before just for that "What if" factor.

Kulak just scored for the Eagles. Guy seems to stick out a little more every week. Leave him down here!

Has McGrattan seen a game yet?
I hope the organization doesn't bury him in the press box down there.

Adirondack hasn't played a game since he was sent down.
Also, Treliving was on the radio the other day and said they needed to get him a visa to play in the States, so I'm not sure if he is even cleared to play yet.

Since anyone with an ECHL contract is fair game, maybe we look at Stockton for someone? Sign someone there to a PTO, give them a shot. Builds up a small amount of good will between some of the current players and the Flames

It looks like McGrattan finally made it to Adirondack...

Brian McGrattan (sent down Saturday) must have finally got his immigration papers in order because he's here. So is Taylor Vause.

Flames "Pink in the Rink" jerseys raised $14,000
The top sellers? Potter and Gillies at $850 each, Wolf at $800
http://www.adirondackflames.com/news/?article_id=175
Also, looks like Seto IS in Adirondack
As is Grats:

I've heard that poirier is having an awesome rookie season in adirondack. His points and goals look great. I'm wondering if anyone that has watched these games can speak to his speed? I've heard a lot of praise about his shot but I haven't heard as much about his speed this year. He was considered to be one of, if not THE fastest skaters in his draft class. Is it evident so far in his pro career? Does he create scoring chances with his speed? Not worried about him at all it's just I haven't heard about his wheels as much as I did when he was in junior.

His speed is on display in Adirondack for sure. It's harder to get open ice though, and defensemen aren't caught flat-footed as often as in junior.
But you can see his speed when he breaks into the middle of the ice or tries to go wide on a D-man.
He is also good at picking his spots. He waits for opportunities and open ice before turning on the after burners

His speed hasn't been mentioned much because that's a major part of his game and what he's known for by in large. It's like continually heaping praise on Tanguay for his passing ability. After a while it gets repetitive. He does generate chances because of it, and both he and Sven have been bouncing off each other creating a lot. He's not the next coming of Pavel Bure speed wise, but he does use it to create space and get to good scoring spots.

Much like CG already alluded to, commenting every time he used his speed to make a play or create a chance would get repetitive quick. I could probably have a whole page of "And there goes Poirier using his speed up the boards, cuts to the middle, takes the shot/makes the pass" because it happens multiple times in most games.
You can see him one minute, lose him the next and he's done that to a number of defencemen this year.

Awesome to hear that his speed is translating to the pro game. I figured it might be just like some of you alluded to... That it's not mentioned cause it's kind of a give-in when he is playing well that his speed is part of it. I just haven't watched any of the games to see first hand. Excited for this guy for sure and happy to see him playing well with baertschi.

Not much in the way of talk about speed, but Huska spoke about Poirier in this NHL.com article.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=747866
Quote:
"He's one of those guys that tends to find the areas where the pucks are going to be, and he puts himself in a good position to shoot. He's got a great shot when he does let it go," Huska said. "He's a deceiving skater. I would bet most defensemen in our conference know who he is and when he's on the ice because they have to be on their toes when he's out there because he skates very, very well."

Curious how many points has Sven had since he was sent down. And how many has he had playing with Poirier?
