Then again, it's a magazine, so everything usually is, unsurprisingly, shopped.

What are the thoughts on his consistency? I mean even in his lulls he still puts up points, but it does seem like he goes through stretches where he can't carry the offense like he is capable of.

I can't wait for the day where he gets that sorted and plays at his best for months at a time instead of weeks. He will be a superstar.

I think my thoughts on his consistency is that he is 45 games in to his NHL career and inconsistency should be expected. You can see he is trying to adapt to the pace of the game and learning to play different versus different teams. He is putting up points while sometimes looking out manned. Pretty impressive and we're lucky to have him.

I think he looks kind of like a rookie. Weird, right?

We are at a very key time for Johnny - this is when the experts said he'd tail off, because he's used to a university schedule. I think he is going to get a second wind.

The light January schedule is fortunate in this regard. The several 4-5 day breaks should help him recharge his batteries a bit.

An 82 game schedule playing big minutes is a major grind for any player. I think it will wear particularly hard on Johnny.

That being said, I still bet he pushes 20 goals and 50 points (if he can continue to avoid injury).

Honestly, Im just impressed he has avoided being killed or maimed so far.

He's getting tougher minutes from the opponents and may need to make more adjustments.

One thing that was weird to me last game was that, although he looked to have room for his patented buton hook, he almost always chose to do a cross-ice dump in.

The only players that are consistent offensively are the ones that never score. Even Crosby or Gretzky has ups and downs.

Frankly, I think Gaudreau has been shockingly consistent for a rookie.

Too much photoshop makes even celebrities unrecognizable. You see it all the time these days.

We need some more beef up to make some space for Johnny. Someone who has a good edge and a bit unpredictable but still has hands.......Bring up the Wolf

Perhaps they had to stretch Johnny to make him fit a whole page.

They'd have to squish Chara.

Pretty much this. Very surprised how consistent he's played this season. Figure it would be similar to Monahan where they have some big lulls in scoring but Johnny has done well to still put up points even when he isn't playing all that great.

That photoshop is so bad. I do better work with Microsoft Paint.

woah woah woah, I wasn't trying to slight Johnny in anyway. I was just commenting on how he can go for weeks where looks like the best player on the ice game in and game out and then he seems to fade for a bit and then comes back. I'm not worried at all, just thinking how great it will be if he can play on that level consistently.

After reading a bit of this thread I was curious to look at Johnny's game log so I looked him up on NHL.com. I've never looked at such detailed "splits" before, I didn't know the NHL itself tracked all of this data! Thought I'd share it as an interesting resource:

Huh. Looks like he loves weekend games, and hates mid week. Strange holdover from college hockey?

Ea Sports must not be aware of what the hockey news is.
