Isn't he a bit player right now? Why all the talk about him here on CP? Am I missing something?

He's a second round pick who has some size and is posting nearly a point/game in the AHL, and is only just turning 24-years-old this month. His pedigree and production would have him slated ahead of Grandlund, who was a top-five prospect in the annual CP poll.

I would certainly characterise him as a more than a "bit player." Shore could potentially turn into an impact NHLer.

And its Calgarypuck!

We once had a 30 page pissing match over the unspeakable asset management debacle of losing Jason Morgan on waivers

Who was Jason Morgan you ask?

He played 13 games with the Flames and had two assists before moving on to the Pred on waivers

He played 17 more NHL games for a life time total of 44 putting up 2 goals and 5 assists!

It matters!

If they play him one more game, does it mean that they can't send him to the AHL All-Star game? Just wondering if that plays a part in any decision.

If he plays one more game, he is then waiver eligible. If the Flames wish to send a player to play in the AHL who is waiver eligible, he will need to pass through waivers.

The All Star game is only a week away, and Adirondack has two games before then. I suspect that the Flames may elect to keep him up until the weekend, send him down to play in one or two games, and in time for the All Star game.

He will not play an NHL game before then.

No, they aggravated a tough situation where they have too many forwards that are NHL ready or close. But I don't think they regret going out and getting a more valuable asset after only 1 game.

I think there was a plan to bring him along with the team, but he likely needs conditioning and time to adapt to systems. I think the plan all along may have been to play him once, allow him to watch/train, then bring him in, unless he forced their hand in that one game.
I think now, Granlund plays until he slips, then Shore is in. Keep the players on a short leash, and give the guys who show in games/training the ice

He has more NHL games and substantially more NHL production than Knight. His 95 pts in the AHL are demonstrably better than Knight's overall AHL production, and Shore has far outstripped Knight this season. Given that Shore's numbers suggest he is likely a better player than Knight, I would be less inclined to make this decision after one game in which he looked unexceptional.
Seriously. Shore didn't impress in one of the weaker organizations in hockey with a lineup that was wide open to earning a shot. I don't care what numbers have said to date. Nugent-Hopkins is all over Monahan in games played and points scored, but I wouldn't take RNH over Monahan. I think Monahan is a better player, even with less points scored and less games played. Shore may have a games played and a points scored advantage, but in the games I have seen him he did not stand out in the NHL any more than Knight did during his time in Calgary. Shore should have been held in the AHL and played in the Calgary system to see how he stacks up against the best prospects the Flames have before he got a call up and waste his waiver eligibility. I don't know what the rush was. After all, a player was never hurt by spending a little too much time in the minors.

For the good of our long-term future, I really hope that's not how this team operates.

That lineup is not conducive to "earning a shot. As a center, he's not going to beat out Barkov, Bjugstad, or Bollard. Same on the right side. There wasn't really much opportunity there. He's been way better than Knight in the AHL, so I'm not sure why you don't see him as a clear cut favourite over Knight. He actually played quite well considering there was no real practice time before his first game

This, plus McKenzie has been irretrievably been given the 4th line C spot. They are full up on RW as well, to the extent he could slot in there.

Anyway, this was the type of reaction in Fla, which makes me smile:
